I have recently moved to Santa Rosa from Colorado. My career there spanned from teaching Kindergarten and Special Education to being an elementary school principal, a professional development specialist, and finally an instructor at the University of Colorado. I remain on faculty there, teaching online courses in literacy and many other educational topics. I also have experience as an individual tutor, specializing in teaching reading to students who are experiencing challenges in traditional methods of instruction.
The research in the field of literacy acquisition has led to significant changes in our ability to teach all children to read. Yet, sometimes, in the complex demands of educational systems, students get lost and their specific needs are not addressed in a timely manner. When this occurs, the content continues to accelerate and students who are struggling with the basic connections needed to "break the code" of reading often become frustrated and may fall behind their peers.
I will start with a comprehensive assessment to identify and prioritize your child's needs and then involve you in the development of a very specific and individualized plan of instruction. We knew our son was struggling with reading, but his school couldn't tell us why. Victoria is helping us understand where the roadblocks are. We're learning as much from her as our son is, and he looks forward to her sessions! She is amazing.
Teaching reading to young child. Skillful. Knows how to meet the child on their own level. I can recommend Vicki.
Vicki comes twice a week to meet with my daughter and brings a very high level of enthusiasm every time. She covers a wide range of material with my daughter and I have seen major improvements in her reading abilities. The most important thing is that my daughter always looks forward to her sessions.
I have a degree in elementary education and have taught in elementary school in Colorado, both kindergarten and 3rd grade. I also served as an elementary school principal in four elementary schools over the years in Colorado. Finally, I coached and supported teachers in elementary schools for over eight years as a professional development specialist.
I am a reading specialist, hold a MA in special education, and have completed LETRS training. I have tutored privately in reading in Colorado, worked at a reading clinic and developed and delivered courses in literacy for the University of Colorado Denver.
