I have just started learning Chinese and the tutoring sessions really help. I am learning pronunciation, Pinyin, and hopefully some writing. If you are just starting to learn Chinese (Mandarin) I would highly recommend a strong understanding of Pinyin. If you are just trying to learn a few phrases for a vacation to China you may not need to know Pinyin.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I was born and lived in Nanning, China until immigrating to Canada in 2008 and the U.S. in 2012. I have spoken Mandarin and Cantonese all my life. After receiving Bachelor Degrees from two outstanding Chinese Music Colleges and Universities, I performed as a primary classical singer for a leading Chinese performance orchestra for nearly 15 years and as a singing teacher and coach for the last 26 years. At college, I was required to learn to speak Mandarin perfectly to continue on my career as a classical singer. As a professional singer and teacher, I was required at the age of 26 to pass a high level Mandarin examination. I finished at the very top in China, obtaining a grade of 95%. My lessons are highly individualized and directed to the level of my students. My students always comment that my patience, passion and honesty help them achieve speaking, singing and performing levels that they never imagined possible. I start every new student with an honest appraisal of their starting point as well as their potential. I am very outgoing and try to understand fully each student’s aspirations and dedication.
I am a versatile singing teacher, vocal coach and professional performer with over 26 years of extensive background in performing and teaching in China and Canada. I am an outgoing and passionate teacher now providing singing lessons, vocal coaching and performing instruction.
After receiving Bachelors' Degrees from two outstanding Chinese Music Colleges and Universities, I performed as a primary singer for a leading Chinese performance orchestra for nearly 15 years. I also won major national and regional singing competitions throughout China, including First Place in the most important national competition. Additionally, I performed extensively as a classical soloist in theaters, concert halls and clubs, both in China and Vancouver, British Columbia, where I immigrated in 2008.
Although I was trained in classical singing, I have enjoyed teaching and coaching many musical and performing styles for over 26 years in China, Canada and now in Northern California, my new home. My special focus has been on 10 to 35 year old singers and performers, although I have enjoyed teaching and coaching Classical, Opera, Pop, Country and Musical Theater to a wide range of students.
