B.A., Sonoma State University (Spanish, Studio Art)
I have been tutoring/teaching for over 5 years. I am primarily an ESL teacher, but also tutor beginning level Spanish students. I have a TESL certificate and spent two years teaching English in Spain to middle school and high school students as well as adults. My early teaching experience was with preschoolers and I enjoy working with students of all ages. In order to learn and use a language it is important to have the opportunity to hear and use the language in a safe environment. As a teacher and conversation partner, I plan our meetings around your personal goals and provide many opportunities and resources for learning English. Sessions can be focused on tutoring to enhance in class learning, personalized instruction to improve English for work or daily life, and/or conversation practice with a native speaker. I customize and provide the resources and materials. I have a B.A. in Spanish, with a minor in linguistics and I have also studied German and ASL. As a second language learner I understand the challenges that my students face and look forward to helping meet those challenges.
My second B.A. is in Studio Art. My focus was in printmaking and painting. I have taught face painting classes for experienced and non-experienced artists. Art, like writing is a way to communicate or express our ideas and interests. Art is composed of many elements including technical skill, aesthetics, and the development of ideas/content. I am happy to help with any or all of these areas. I have been tutoring/teaching for over 5 years. I am primarily an ESL teacher, but also tutor beginning level Spanish students. The lessons have a certain beauty to them-- each week, we move to a new conversation and new challenges, but we are steadily building a vocabulary. I'm learning faster and more efficiently than if I tried to do this on my own. Bravo Danielle!
Danielle is a terrific ESL tutor. I came to the Santa Rosa area from Germany to do a six month internship at Agilent Technologies and thought, doing some extra English lessons would not be a bad idea. In fact, it was one of the best things I did during my time in Santa Rosa.
Right at my first lesson with Danielle, it felt like having a very good friend helping me to improve my language skills. Danielle is a very kind and open person, who connects with people very easily. I think to improve your language abilities you have to feel comfortable and secure during lessons. Otherwise you won’t have the courage to try and make mistakes, which of course is necessary to improve. With Danielle, making mistakes was never a problem for me, since I always had the feeling that I was really learning something from her whenever she pointed out a mistake to me.
The focus of our lessons was mainly on conversation and pronunciation and included vocabulary and grammar as well. I learned quite a few new words and idioms from her and I tend to believe that she could polish away some of my bad pronunciation issues. Besides English, I learned a lot about the different areas of California, US architecture, US poetry and numerous other things, she incorporated in our lessons.
I can recommend Danielle to really everybody, who is looking for a great tutor, that undoubtedly is a perfect match for the job.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been drawing for more than twenty years. I have a B.A. in Studio Art from Sonoma State University with an emphasis in printmaking. Drawing is a foundational skill in printmaking and in the course work for the studio program at Sonoma State. From a teaching perspective, drawing can be very therapeutic and useful, not just for future artists, but for a variety of purposes. I enjoy helping anyone explore drawing techniques.
I have loved paintings and the idea of painting since as long as I can remember. But I didn’t really learn to love the act of painting until after I took my beginning oil painting class in college. I had an excellent teacher, who gave me the tools I needed to make whatever I set my mind to. Later, I took the opportunity to TA for that same professor to glean all that I could about his teaching methods. I earned my B.A. in Studio art in 2009 with advanced coursework in painting and painting is the primary medium for my current work. I mainly work with oil and acrylic, but have also used watercolor techniques for many of my drawing and print work. Also, I face paint and have taught face painting classes for experienced and non-experienced artists alike.
