I am currently a stay-at-home mother and household manager with a fairly flexible schedule. I have taught at the middle and high school levels in the subjects of life science/biology, physical science and math. My expertise and passion is in the biological/life sciences. I have done research fellowships and written reports on various topics in biology for universities and medical schools. I have tutored numerous students in the communities in which I taught, both in the Midwest and in California. I graduated magna cum laude at my graduate institution, National-Louis University. I blend my knowledge base with my ability to communicate with students on their level in such a way that creates a successful end result for my students. I enjoy the relationship I develop with my students in the process of one-on-one tutoring. I am currently a stay-at-home mother and household manager with a fairly flexible schedule. Erica C. is a great math tutor. She's worked with both my kids who are twins in the 6th grade. She was flexible and worked closely with their math teacher to make sure they were ready for tests and quizzes. She is very sweet and both my son and daughter (twins) really like her and think she is "cool."
Erica does a great job with her help with my daughter, she is sensitive, challenges her, helpful, thorough. And she always comes when we need her. Thanks Erica.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
As a teacher, I have spoken in front of large groups many times. Often, I have assigned speeches and oral reports to my students, and I have coached them in their delivery in front of an audience. Repetition and visualization help in preparing students for their speeches. It is very common for students to be fearful of speaking in front of their peers, so I give them pointers as to how to combat the fear and feel more confident. I use video recording as a tool, also, because it helps the students to see for themselves what they can improve upon.
I was a track athlete through college, and during that time, I gained valuable running and conditioning skills. These skills have helped me to be an effective track and fields coach at the high school level, and they have also helped me to become a competitive runner in road races. I enjoy sharing the techniques I have learned, as well as the passion I developed for the sport.
