I am passionate about the Chinese Language and culture. I have studied Chinese for over 30 years and pride myself in speaking with the proper pronunciation and tonal inflections of Mandarin Chinese. I lived in Taiwan for over two years and have traveled extensively on the mainland and Hong Kong. I have tutored beginners and college students, young people and retired, and design each student's sessions to fit their specific needs. I highly recommend Ralph D. as a Chinese tutor. He develops lesson plans for my skill level and has helped build my knowledge of Mandarin. His expertise in traditional and simplified characters is very useful and his time spent in different parts of China allows for interesting cultural instruction. He is prompt, efficient, courteous (i.e. professional) and easy to work with.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I studied Chinese at the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California, and spent over two years living and working in Taiwan. In 2005 I attended WorldLink Education in Beijing, China, updating my business Chinese skills. I presently work as a freelance Chinese translator and tutor. I have recently done work for Pro Translating, Coral Gables, Florida, Joy Chen, Taiwan Encyclopedia, Taipei, Taiwan, Masterword Services, Houston, Texas, and Web Translations, Leeds, England, and others. I have also tutored many students from 7 years old to 70 years old at all different levels of Chinese learning.
