About Brandis

Hello, I'm Brandis. I hold a Bachelor and Master degree from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. In the early part of my collegiate studies, I also studied math and almost minored in that subject. In 2011, I obtained a California Single Subject Teaching Certificate from Sonoma State University. Not only do I have experience as a classroom teacher, but I also have a lot of experience in tutoring and private teaching. In the past, I have tutored math, music, reading, organization, and computer software (Microsoft Word, Outlook, Powerpoint, and Windows). I have also had many private students for music.

I currently work in the medical device industry, and have a good knowledge of what companies are looking for in interns and potential hires. I incorporate my knowledge of classroom teaching into my tutoring. I have worked with a wide variety of students, and am sensitive to individual learning needs. My teaching style is one that encourages students to explore the subject content and the process of learning. That includes challenges, failures, and breakthroughs. I believe that every challenge and breakthrough are necessary steps in learning, and that the process is more important than the product. I work hard to instill good learning habits, study skills, and discipline in the students that I work with.

In my spare time, I enjoy hobbies such as cooking, crafts, and performing.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Drums

I have a Bachelor and Master degree in Music (with an emphasis on percussion), and also hold a California Teaching Credential in Music. I have taught music for close to 10 years, and have been an active performer for 14 years. Not only can I teach how to play drums, but I also teach the fundamentals of percussion and incorporate how to read, understand, and interpret music.

Ear Training

I have a Bachelor and Master degree in Music (with an emphasis on percussion), and also hold a California Teaching Credential in Music. I have taught music for close to 10 years, and have been an active performer for 14 years. My education and experience as a musician has fined tuned my ear and helped me solidify the necessary steps to work on ear training. Not only can I help in developing the musical ear, but I also incorporate the fundamentals of music in my ear training teaching.

General Music

I have a Bachelor and Master degree in Music, and also hold a California Teaching Credential in Music. I have taught music for close to 10 years, and have been an active performer for 14 years. I have experience in teaching music fundamentals, reading and writing music, ear training, genre recognition, and general music concepts.

Microsoft Outlook

I have worked with Microsoft applications in corporate environments for 10+ years. I am very proficient at Microsoft Outlook, and know many tips and tricks to help make tasks more efficient. My students will learn all the functionality and tools of Microsoft Outlook and how to apply them in work/school environments, while at the same time, increase their value to their current or future employers.
