About Jordan

I have a life long dedication to teaching and tutoring. Additionally, I have always had a passion for mathematics and the physical sciences. They fascinate and inspire me. Over the past nine years I have been combining my love for math and science with my dedication to teaching and lifelong learning. My approach to tutoring is holistic - every aspect of a student's life affects their performance in school. As such, I take it upon myself to provide as much support in all areas of a student's life in addition to the subject tutoring and/or test prep services I provide. K-12 and secondary education can be extremely stressful for students as well as their families. It is essential that students and their families have a good support team to help get them through all the challenges that are associated with grade school and secondary education. I want to be a part of the team that helps you (or your student) achieve their goals.

I am a firm believer that each student deserves individualized attention in order to help them succeed and realize their full academic potential. Patience and perseverance are invaluable traits in a good tutor, and I pride myself on having never given up on a student. Good communications skills and a willingness to adopt different teaching styles according to each specific student's learning style are also essential qualities. With each of my students, I see myself more as a mentor than as just an academic tutor.

A little bit more about me:
-I have experience in a wide variety of subjects including Math, Science, History, English, and SAT/ACT Test Prep.
-I graduated from UCLA in the Summer of 2013 with a Bachelor of Science in Computational and Systems Biology with a Mathematics minor.
-I enjoy an active, healthy lifestyle and spend as much time as possible outdoors hiking, camping, and playing sports.
-I have a predominantly kinesthetic learning style and prefer working with my hands whenever possible.

*** Lesson Details ***
My subject (math, science, etc) tutoring sessions typically consist of reviewing any lessons learned in the previous week, helping with homework assignments, and previewing material that has not yet been covered in class. Standardized test prep (SAT, ACT, etc.) sessions generally consist of learning various test taking techniques and working on practice problems. Lesson content will always be customized and catered toward individual students' needs. Each student has different learning styles and needs and I firmly believe that a great tutor will always remain attuned to this fact.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Calculus

Calculus is one of my favorite subjects to study as well as one of my favorite subjects to tutor. In my junior year of high school I completed AP Calculus BC, scored a 5 on the AP Exam, and then continued on to multi-variable calculus at my local community college during my senior year. Upon arriving at UCLA, I was able to take multiple Differential Equations courses, Linear Algebra courses, and Analysis of Real Numbers--all of which build off of the fundamentals learned in the introductory Calculus curriculum.

Chemistry

In high school, I took Honors Chemistry and received a 4 on the AP Chemistry Exam. During my time at UCLA I took 5 lower division chemistry courses that covered general chemistry and organic chemistry. Each course also had a lab component. Additionally, I spent 2 years working in research labs on campus where a basic understanding of chemistry is essential.

Physics

Physics has been a passion of mine since I completed my AP Physics course in 12th grade of high school. I received a 5 on my AP test and often found myself helping the other students in the class. While attending UCLA, I completed 3 lower division physics courses that covered a range of topics from mechanics, electricity and magnetism, and thermodynamics to relativity and quantum theory. My background in physics is further supported by my expertise in mathematics.

Precalculus

Pre-calculus is an essential course for students who plan to move up to calculus and beyond. I took honors pre-calculus my sophomore year of high school and I knew immediately that it was going to be a key component for my future math endeavors. I continued to build upon this foundation in the subsequent years and immediately began tutoring other students after I completed the course. I have been tutoring pre-calculus ever since; I typically have about 2 to 5 students each year that I work with that are taking pre-calculus.

SAT Math

When in high school, I scored a 720 on the math portion of the SAT as well as a 790 on the Math Level II SAT Subject Test. Since then, I have retaken the SAT multiple times and scored a perfect 800 each time. Many people don't realize that doing well on the math portion is all about understanding the language of the SAT; I've mastered that language and I want to help you master it as well.

Trigonometry

I have been tutoring Trigonometry since I began my tutoring career almost 8 years ago. It is one of the first subjects I began tutoring in and have developed most of my tutoring expertise teaching Trigonometry and math. I also completed a minor in mathematics during my studies at UCLA and Trigonometry was a crucial component of those studies.

The absolute best!!

As a home-schooled student, it's extremely important that my tutor know the material I'm working on like the back of their hand since I'm essentially teaching everything to myself. Jordan not only knows the material, but he can break it down in a way that makes it seem easy and fun! I have straight A's in my Calculus and Physics classes, and although he'd never take any of the credit for himself,
