My emphasis with tutoring is on fun and going at the pace that the student can tolerate. I started tutoring in high school, after scoring in the 99th percentile on the SAT and getting perfect scores on the AP Language/Comp, Literature/Comp, and SAT Verbal, and SAT Writing exams! I love seeing improvement and understanding in students.
Positive relationships and productive work are the consistent results of all my tutoring sessions. Though I have gone to elite schools, I do not "talk down" to students. Whether I'm doing college counseling, working on study habits, crafting the PERFECT essay, or doing interview coaching, tutoring is my deeply gratifying time away from the loud, hectic world of the medical profession. I look forward to helping you meet your goals!
*Please note that my rate is $40/hour for history tutoring. This is because I am not an expert in history (i.e. did not take college level coursework) BUT, I can help with study skills and cramming/memorization/test question prediction for history, depending on the need of the student. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

When applying for college, I was accepted everywhere that I applied. I won numerous college scholarships based on my extracurriculars and essays. I won admission to two types of graduate school and have guided community college students to successful matriculation at four-year colleges.
While at Stanford, I served as an Academic Advisor for several years, helping freshmen adjust to college life, choose classes, and get through difficult problem sets. I coached them on internship applications as well.
As a college student, our family friends often would have me read their children's application essays and tailor them to the personalities of different schools. Having visited the majority of the top 15 schools and studied their philosophies, as well as observing how graduates of different colleges fare in the job and graduate school markets, I am well positioned to advise on choosing the right college.

I am a practicing physician. I use concepts of pharmacology every day at work. In medical school, we had a 3-month-long course in pharmacology, taken in conjunction with pathology and microbiology. I achieved Honors in my pharmacology course.
I was a champion debater in high school. I competed in LD Debate and coached younger students on the team. I also succeeded in Extemp speaking.
I attended the Northwestern University Lincoln-Douglas Debate Program, a very competitive summer institute for debaters.
With me, you will receive lots of encouragement and precise coaching to help achieve levels of speaking confidence you never knew were possible!
I have been gifted with excellent writing skills, and I enjoy teaching these skills to students. I won many prizes for writing during middle and high school and won a national award in science communication in medical school. I trained professionally as a journalist at UC-Berkeley's Graduate School of Journalism. My writing was likely the reason I won enough scholarship money to pay for my first year at Stanford!
