Whittier College (Political Science)
After graduating from Whittier College I joined an AmeriCorps Program that trains volunteers in tutoring and mentoring students in and out of a classroom. I decided to join because of my passion for education. I tutored students in 3rd grade Math and English, writing my own lesson plans for each session or working with work sheets that my partner teacher provided. During my second year I was the second grade after school teacher for 6 students, providing homework assistance and a fun and productive learning environment. During the academic day I also tutored 7th grade students in math.
I have the most experience working with elementary students but I feel very comfortable working with middle and high school students as well. While working with your students I can write unique lesson plans or review what your student is learning in school.
While in college I studied American government at length as well as British, Middle Eastern and African governments. I usually lead study groups in discussion and test preparation. I am comfortable tutoring any age student in this area. College students could contact me about specific courses if they near help with a very specific area.
I am available to tutor week days from 9am to 9pm. Please contact me directly about availability on the weekends. I am more then willing to do an initial meet and greet with parents and students to discuss qualifications and areas of study. My hourly rate is $40 per hour. Ajita's energy, attentiveness, focus and coaching method is just what my daughter needs. I'm seeing results in her performance and engagement after just one session with Ajita. Ajita is a great tutor and mentor and I would highly recommend her.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
As an AmeriCorps volunteer I was trained to tutor elementary students in Math and ELA. I worked with students, writing my own lesson plans and reviewing data, for 2 years. I worked with students of all academic levels but focused on underachieving students. Lesson plans were also written for study skills because we were focused on improving students State test scores.
