Humboldt State University (Mathematics)
My name is Nick and I love math. I've been tutoring/teaching math for 8 years and am always amazed by the improvement I see in my students. I have helped students who were struggling with basic algebra to go on and succeed in higher level math classes like Calculus. I tutor Algebra, Pre-Calculus, Trigonometry, Calculus 1, 2, & 3, Differential Equations, Linear Algebra, and other classes like Finite Math or Discrete Math. I even do test prep for the ACT and the SAT. Most of my tutoring experience is 1-on-1 with the student, however I am willing to tutor online. I hold a degree in Mathematics from Humboldt State University.
In addition to math, I am an avid chess player and during summers, I am an action photographer for a rafting company on one of the scariest rivers in North America.
With my years of experience tutoring, I have obtained a solid understanding of basic math concepts. I am very patient with my students and am very good at finding weaknesses in a student's understanding of math. My goal is to turn those weaknesses into strengths so the student will have the skills to work problems out alone.
My hours are very flexible. I am also willing to tutor for multiple hours at a time if needed. I would love to be your personal teacher and I guarantee your math scores will improve with my help. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have tutored discrete math for years when I worked as a tutor at the Math Learning Center in Santa Cruz, CA. I am very familiar with the concepts taught in Discrete math such as probabilities in combinatorics, graph theory, and general logic. In discrete math, the student learns a great deal of math concepts on the surface level. I have taken classes in Combinatorics and Abstract Algebra that deal with graph theory, so my understanding of the topics covered in Discrete math is very strong.
I have tutored finite math for years when I was in school and when I worked as a tutor at the Math Learning Center in Santa Cruz, CA. I am very familiar with this subject and all of the different topics of math that this course touches on. I have a strong understanding of basic topics in finite math including Simplex Tableaux and Future Value problems.
