About Connie

I am a fountain of information about all aspects of art & I am excited to share this knowledge with anyone that is interested, regardless of what skill level you consider yourself to be at. Whether you're interested in fine-tuning your foundation drawing skills or enhancing your technical knowledge about painting techniques or color theory...I am a great resource. I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Savannah College of Art and Design in Painting. I also have a minor equivalents in Art History and Psychology. After graduating, I interned with a successful Chapel Hill muralist. Then I re-located to the west coast where I worked for 10 years in the Los Angeles area as a designer and business owner specializing in custom artistic renovation and restoration solutions for residential and commercial interior spaces. So this means, that outside of traditional fine art techniques, I can also teach you a wide range of faux finishing, architectural and decorative finishing applications such as venetian plaster and gilding. In the last year, I have been applying to a range of graduate programs overseas. Most recently, I was accepted into the Bezalel Art Academy through the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. I am dedicated as a devotee to the process of artmaking and creative thought, therefore- I am also a life long student.

I am an outstanding candidate because I have native talent, a lifetime of art related experience and because I am extremely interested and passionate about my field of study.

Although I do have a 24-hour cancellation policy, I do my best to be flexible with time. I have a studio workspace where all of my art supplies are stored, and so students are welcome to meet me here. However, depending on what works best for our specified objectives, I will be happy to negotiate an alternative meeting space for our tutoring session.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Drawing

I have been drawing and painting since I was a child. As my parents recognized my native artistic aptitude, I was enrolled in a number of art classes and extracurricular summer art programs. As a high school senior, I was accepted into the Savannah College of Art & Design with a scholarship. In 1998, I graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with a major in Painting. Additionally, I have minor equivalent knowledge in Art History and Psychology. After graduating, I interned for a year with a notable muralist from the Chapel Hill/Carrboro area. After this, I re-located to Los Angeles where I spent 10 years working as a set painter, a set designer, and a decorative painter. Beginning in 2009, I started an art & design business where I created custom art, interior finishes and textures for high-profile clientele in residential and commercial spaces. Simultaneously throughout this period, I have always worked in my home studio developing my own personal bodies of work for the purpose of displaying in galleries. Most recently, I have been accepted into an art program at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem in collaboration with Israel's top art school, Bezalel Academy. I intend to participate in this program beginning in 2016.
