About Ginger

Gaining a connection with the student is the most important element to receptivity toward the learning process. Learning really can be made fun and I hope to motivate you to excel in your endeavors.

The primary fields I teach are English writing, reading/comprehension, composition and public speaking. I hold a B.A. in Communications.

I've worked as a journalist (writer, producer, editor, proofreader) for a major network news company for many years and wrote for a quite a few top on-camera talent. In my capacity as an editor, I was responsible for editing and rewriting the work of others and/or advising them how to make their own written stories better.

Additionally, I've written screenplays, editorials, fiction, poetry and worked freelance as a writer crafting business communications, web site content on quite a variety of topics.

I am also an actor having studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and with a number of individual coaches. All of this aids in my ability in the area of public speaking and effective communication. I love and appreciate good theater and believe I have a keen eye related to theater arts and performance.

I live in Santa Clarita and my preference is tutoring jobs within the S.C. Valley. I would be willing to travel further afield depending upon your needs.

I look forward to meeting and working with you.

Thank you for viewing my profile.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Proofreading

As a former writer/producer with NBC News, much of my work entailed proofreading what others had written then editing it and even rewriting it, as required. Now as a freelance writer, I am often called upon to proofread business communications, web site content and even books.

Public Speaking

While studying to complete my B.A. in Mass Communications, I took extensive courses in broadcasting, public speaking, film making, acting and theater. During my job as a journalist, I was heavily involved in writing and editing effective communication.

At the same time, I went on to study acting formally at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and with talented and competent acting coaches.

Effective public speaking is dependent upon two key factors. Knowledge of your topic is of the utmost importance. After that, comes performance. Good performance is contingent upon control and timing, confidence, which comes primarily from the knowledge of your topic and finally from the ability to read your audience.

My array of experience in communications and the arts gives me a unique ability to guide your performance technique.

Theater

While studying to complete my B.A. in Mass Communications, I took extensive courses in acting, theater, dance and movement for theater; I've studied karate, fencing and stage combat, all of which enhance movement on the stage.

I've studied acting formally at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and with talented and competent acting coaches in New York and Los Angeles (Guy Stockwell, for one); I've acted for dozens of theater productions and in films. I am continuing my acting training today.

My experience in communications and the arts gives me the ability to guide your imagination, improve your creativity and enhance your performance.

Writing

I hold a B.A. in Communications and I'm a former writer/producer with NBC News. My job there required me to write stories and edit other people's work.

After leaving NBC I became a freelance writer, crafting everything from business communications to screenplays and short stories as well as providing content for a variety of web sites.
