About Marika

I discovered my love of teaching back in elementary school when classmates started asking me for homework help, and I haven't looked back since! I began formally tutoring in high school and am now on a path towards earning a degree in secondary education from Clark University and a teaching license. I aced nearly every class I took in high school, 10 of which were AP, and have experience tutoring for all these subjects, including math through calculus, English, and several types of history.

My top specialty is physics. I am currently a senior working towards my B.A. in physics, and I just returned from a year of study in Europe, during which I worked full time as a climate change researcher at the University of Helsinki in Finland and passed two intensive PhD level atmospheric science courses. I have taken mechanics and electricity and magnetism at the university level, and have a lot of experience tutoring high school physics. This subject is my passion and I love passing that on!

In addition to academics, I am able to capably tutor ballroom dance. I have been performing and teaching dance since I was very young, and am currently a competitive ballroom dancer at the bronze level. I have been competing for about a year and have won ribbons as both a leader and a follower in all four styles of competitive ballroom, meaning I am able to teach the traditional roles for both guys and girls, and am more than happy to do either or both!

My favorite moments are being able to explain something to someone and watch them light up when they finally understand. I understand that sometimes it's difficult, but I think there's no better feeling than overcoming that in order to learn, and I love being able to spread that around.

My schedule is extremely flexible, and I would love to hear from you if you're interested in working with me on any subject, either in person or online. Let me know, and I'll do everything I can to help you reach your goals.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 2

I aced Algebra 2 when I took it high school, and am now in college with three years of calculus under my belt. I have also been tutoring math, mostly algebra, to high school students for two years, and have had great success so far!

Ballroom Dancing

I am a competitive ballroom dancer at the bronze level, and have been competing for about a year. I have won ribbons as both a leader and follower in all four styles of competitive ballroom. This gives me the unique ability to teach the traditional roles for both boys and girls, and demonstrate both sides for a student in order to help them understand the interactions within a partnership.

Calculus

I have taken three years of calculus so far, and aced them all. I also have two years of experience tutoring various math subjects including calculus, and have been very successful with it!

Geometry

In high school, I took geometry online, and was easily able to grasp the concepts without any help, so I have a full understanding of this subject that has helped me greatly throughout the three years of calculus that I have now taken. I also have two years of experience tutoring all levels of math including geometry, and have had great success so far!

Physics

I am currently working towards my BA in Physics from Clark University and have completed courses in mechanics as well as electricity and magnetism at the university level, in addition to studying the subject in high school. I also have the experience of working as a full time researcher in physics, specifically atmospheric science, at the University of Helsinki in Finland. During my time in Finland, I also passed two intensive PhD level courses related to modelling and data analysis. I have been tutoring physics for several years now and hope to become a qualified high school physics teacher; this subject is my passion and I am both qualified and willing to share my knowledge and experience with others.
