“**Knowledgeable and Thorough**”

My experiences as a certified teacher in the state of California, where I hold a multiple subjects credential (all subjects K-8) and single subject (High School level) credentials for both math and Spanish, include working in both rural and urban areas; in both small and large classroom settings; and working with a variety of subjects. Jennifer never ceases to let me fall behind; she's very thorough with explanations and break-downs in all types of problems.

Jennifer is very knowledgeable. She is patient, and helps me understand things at my pace. Before it was Greek, and now it makes sense.

Approved subjects are in **bold**.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I am a credentialed high school math teacher in California and have taught Algebra I for three and half years and tutored the subject for an additional two years. It is important to make sure that students have a solid foundational understanding of arithmetic and to help them see how Algebra is an extension of the arithmetic that they already know. Building from concrete example to abstract generalization is helpful in moving students forward in the subject matter.

I hold a credential to teach high school math in California and have three years experience teaching Algebra II in a classroom. I have worked in after school programs and intervention programs to help students who were struggling with the content and have recently been working as a private tutor in the subject. Intermediate and advanced Algebra explore math in exciting ways but can be challenging if you have areas of Basic Algebra that need to be further developed. I can help you to develop solid content knowledge and to boost your math confidence and test taking skills in the process.

I hold a multiple subjects credential and single subject credentials for math and Spanish in the state of California. I passed the CBEST when I began teaching on an emergency credential in January of 2008. Later, I passed the three CSET exams (California Subject Examination for Teachers) for my multiple subjects credential which covers all of the subjects included in the CBEST exam, but does so more extensively. I have also passed three CSETs each for math and Spanish and the RICA exam for reading instruction, giving me experience with test preparation and test taking strategies.

I have attended the annual Critical Issues in Mathematics Education, sponsored by the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute at U.C. Berkeley, for the past 6 years. This conference series has focused on the Common Core State Standards for Math, lead by some of the individuals who have been on the forefront of working to improve mathematics education and who helped to author the new standards. I participated in a four week intensive seminar, Elementary Math for Teachers, lead by Professor Hung-Hsi Wu, who wrote some of the new standards. Also, my teacher induction program in the Oakland Unified School District focused on the new standards and the changes that would be taking place in classrooms upon their implementation.

Get ready for Algebra! I hold a California teaching credential for high school math as as a multiple subjects teaching credential for all subjects up through 8th grade. My experience in an intensive month long summer workshop in the elementary mathematics for educators gave me the experience of learning how to develop mathematical concepts using logical progressions and concrete language. It gave me tools to help students fill in gaps in their mathematical understanding of basic concepts so that they are able to better move forward with more advanced content.

Having completed my two year teacher preparation program (10 units each semester) while also working as a full-time teacher, required that I be efficient regarding my use of time in order to be successful both as a student as well as as a teacher. During my third year of teaching, I was assigned to teach Spanish I and II, Algebra I and II, and Geometry, which meant that I had to prepare for five different subjects each day. During this time I was also preparing to clear my credential in an expedited (two years in one) teacher induction program that required additional work both inside and outside of the classroom. I would be able to share with students tools that allow for them to swiftly yet thoroughly complete assignments and to find ways to engage across the curriculum so that they can condense learning activities to include more than one subject, when possible.
