Hello! I am a PhD student at the University of CA, Santa Barbara with more than two years of teaching experience at the college level, but I am excited to work with students of all ages! My experience ranges from mathematics, physics, engineering, programming, ecology, and statistics to writing and geography.
My philosophy includes teaching through hands on experience and practice to reinforce technical skills. Drawing on my experience as a student, I approach each student as an individual, respecting each student's unique needs, interests, and motivations. I enjoy teaching to build understanding of abstract or mathematical frameworks to describe the natural world; guiding students from abstraction to reality.
Regarding my technical experience, I have completed a BS in Engineering, which required rigorous mathematics and other courses in STEM. I also maintained my writing skills and worked towards a broader perspective by taking a robust writing course each year in college, from global economics to gender studies. I am currently pursuing a masters in statistics as well as a PhD in geography (wildfire ecology), requiring application of geo-statistics and higher level mathematics and directly studying complex topics of ecology and eco hydrology. As a graduate teaching associate, I am regularly assigned a class section of 15-25 college students to teach. I prepare lessons (sometimes for the course and sometimes for lab) and instruct students 1-2 times per week, as well as fulfill grading and advising responsibilities.
Beyond academic help, I am also always happy to talk with my students about college and graduate school, including the application process and my personal experiences.
Please feel free to reach out, I'm excited to meet you!
