About Betty

Hello everyone,

My name is Betty and I graduated from University of California, Riverside with a Bachelor of Arts. My major was Sociology and my GPA was 3.5. I have over 10 years of experience working with K-12, college, and adult students. With this experience, I have come to understand why a concept or lesson can be particularly challenging for a student. One of the best ways to fully comprehend a lesson is to try teaching it to someone else. Because of this reason, I encourage all my students to verbally express our lessons to me in their own words.

Because I majored in sociology, my strength is in reading and writing. However, I've taken math up to college level calculus so I'm confident with K-12 level math as well.

If there is any inquiry, I can also mentor my student on college counseling.

I've had my own experience with tutors growing up, so I can directly relate to the other end of the tutoring experience as the student. I understand how frustrating it can be when a certain concept is difficult to understand without extra help. Now that I'm an experienced tutor and a graduate school applicant, I know that one of the most essential qualities a tutor must possess is patience.

I genuinely enjoy teaching and mentoring my students. I love seeing progress and increase in comprehension. I hope to meet you soon so we can start seeing some changes!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Korean

I am qualified to teach Korean because it has been the language of my household growing up. I still speak it on a daily basis with my family. Additionally, I have taken Korean classes so I understand which aspects students have trouble grasping when learning this language. I know how to read, write, and speak Korean fluently.

Macintosh

I have used a Macintosh since elementary school. Since then, the platform has drastically changed and I have adapted to it. All the laptops I've owned in the past 8 years have been Macs. Because most people use Windows, it can be a whole new ballgame when it comes to using a Mac. Some things I can tutor include understanding the basic usage of the keyboard and mouse, the software exclusive to the Mac, and even how to use shortcuts with the keyboard.

Microsoft Outlook

I am qualified to tutor Microsoft Outlook because I have used it for 5 years now. I have used it professionally, as well as personally. I understand all of the software's email, calendar, and contacts functions. Also, I know how to use both the Windows and Mac version of this software.

Microsoft Windows

I have used Windows all throughout elementary, middle, and high school. Although I personally own a Mac laptop, I still consistently use Windows because my home desktop is a Windows. Utilizing Windows is very second nature to me so it is extremely easy for me to tutor someone in this subject. I understand how to use the functions confidently. I can teach anything from using the taskbar, to searching your PC, to using the various included software.

Sociology

I received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology last summer. I took numerous lower and upper division courses on the subject, such as Development of Sociological Theory, Sociology of the Labor Movement, The Sociology of Women, and Methods of Sociological Inquiry to name a few. I received an A in all but two of my sociology classes, so I have a fairly large understanding of this subject.
