Hello! My name is Steven and I have graduated magna cum laude from UC San Diego. I majored in chemical engineering and minored in both literature and math with an emphasis on probability and statistics. I also have experience working in research projects in various fields including chemistry, biomedical informatics, bioengineering, medicine, and education. I draw from this wide variety of experiences to help students view how they themselves can apply what they learned in the classroom to the real world, especially to those that are interested in statistics and data science.

I have previously tutored math for elementary and middle school students. My teaching style is highly adaptive to the students' needs, whether it would be covering homework problems by hand or visualizing data using Python or Excel. During the lessons, I find ways to motivate the topic that the students want to cover and help them view problems from multiple perspectives. When desired, I have created custom problem sets meant to challenge the student so that they become better thinkers!

What I love about tutoring is that it allows both the student and me to exchange ideas and problem-solve. I encourage students to be creative and imaginative in their thinking so that when they come across another problem, they know that they have the tools to solve it. What I cannot give is a solution to every question they have, but what I can and will give is the means to get to that solution.

Whether you are interested in solving homework problems, exploring research projects, or want to become a better thinker, I want to help you! I am easy to reach via email and provide quick responses. Feel free to send an email if you have any questions or want to schedule a lesson!

Statistics

Statistics

I have a math minor that comprises of coursework in probability, theoretical statistics, and computational statistics. I have completed a summer research project on modeling learning effects by utilizing bootstrapping and am authoring a paper in emergency medicine that utilizes logistic regression for analysis. As a research fellow, previous statistical techniques that I utilized for data analysis include chi-squared tests, multiple linear regression, and analysis of variance.
