About Sean

I would like to keep my own introduction brief. Interested parents and students: you can learn so much more about me once we converse.

I'm currently a third-year student at the Haas School of Business, UC Berkeley.

After receiving a 2370 on my very first (and also the last) SAT test, I received a few requests from my classmates to help them with their own preparation. That marked the beginning of my tutoring career. It was when I entered college that I realized how much I enjoyed working with other students. I no longer considered it as a job, but rather a valuable experience, where I could grow alongside my pupils.

1) SAT and ACT - I have worked with over 50 different students in preparation of standardized tests, including the updated SAT. I am proud to say that 96% of them have met their target scores within an average of 3 months under my guidance. I have worked tirelessly to develop my own curriculum over the years, which has proved to be both engaging and effective. I identify the student's strengths and weaknesses on the test and personalize my teaching style based on his or her needs.

2) Algebra, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus & Calculus - Many students struggle in math because the current education system teaches it in an unnecessarily convoluted way. In contrast, I explain each concept in a simple, straightforward manner. Currently, my most frequently tutored school subject is Algebra 2.

3) All levels of English - I love writing, and I'm currently pursuing a minor in Rhetoric. I teach all levels of English, from ESL to AP Lang & Lit.

4) College Consulting, Essays & Applications - I have interned at a large college consulting firm for just under a year. During the time, I gained valuable insight into the entire application process, as well as other very helpful information that is not widely known to parents or students. I can help you build the "perfect application," whether you are a freshman starting high school, or a senior preparing for the transfer season.

One other thing to add -- I attribute part of my success as a tutor to my age. As a student myself, I can relate to all my students quickly. One of the first things I will achieve with your child is to convince them that our tutoring sessions will not be tedious, but instead enjoyable and enriching.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
