About Megan

I earned my Certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language in January 2016. My coursework has been in class as well as online, and has included curriculum development designed to achieve learning objectives.

Formerly, I was Executive Director for nine years at the O’Hanlon Center for the Arts (OHCA) in Mill Valley, CA. There, a critical area I developed for OHCA was educational program offerings. I recruited new teachers, strategized with them to generate program ideas, and streamlined processes. I created program slates quarterly, provided technical and physical support, and corresponded with class facilitators as well as participants to ensure rewarding educational experiences. I also established partnerships with other nonprofit and commercial organizations.

Prior to my position at OHCA I was the Senior Art Educator for the Bay Area Discovery Museum for children in Sausalito, CA where I developed curriculum and taught art to patrons of the museum.

I also previously worked as the Museum Specialist for the Presidio Archaeology Lab in San Francisco where I directed the lab's education programs. The series I established while there, “Garbology 101,” was awarded the California Governor’s Award in 2002.

I earned my Master’s degree in Anthropology from San Francisco State University (SFSU) and my Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Anthropology and African American Studies from the University of Maryland (UMCP). I was a Teaching Assistant two times - once while at SFSU for the class, "California People and Cultures," and before that, as an undergraduate at UMCP for "Research Methodologies for African American Studies Majors," where I helped devise a new curriculum and syllabus.

I continue my education by taking online courses through Lynda.com and stay abreast of science and social studies issues as a volunteer in the Anthropology Department of the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco.

I have had five scholarly articles published on topics relating to archaeology and history. My Master’s Thesis is currently used in Anthropology classes at SFSU and is available on Amazon.com. I am proficient in Word, Excel, Internet applications, Mac/MS platforms, social media, and Wordpress.

Aside from my work with social studies and education, I am a practicing artist and an avid traveler. I work primarily in photography, print, and mixed media, have had my artwork on display in 25 juried shows, and was an Artist in Residence in Arles, France. I have traveled worldwide, and have studied art, history, and cultural traditions in every place I've been. I have been to sites as far flung as Machu Picchu, Angkor Wat, and Petra and have seen the Terracotta Soldiers in situ just outside the ancient walled city of Xian.

All of these experiences require strong teaching, writing, and communication abilities, as well as a dedication to providing education in all its delivery configurations.

I've always been grateful for the people who have helped me throughout my life. Now it's time I give back and help you! I look forward to meeting you.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
