About Hannah

I have been working as a Center Director and Director of Education at a local tutoring center for the past 2 years. I am now transitioning into primarily self-contract tutoring.

I hold a B.A. in Anthropology from The University of Georgia and a M.A. in Teaching from Valdosta State University. I have 5 years experience mentoring, tutoring and teaching students in reading, writing, and math. I am confident that my teaching style and best practices will help support students of all learning styles and abilities. I believe in creating a welcoming learning environment that is designed specifically for my students' interests and strengths. I believe that encouragement along side with 'interest led environments' is crucial in motivating understanding. My background in Anthropology has prepared me to work well with a wide variety of nationalities and the subject itself is still a substantial interest in my life. I desire to gain more experiences of mentoring from my tutor sessions and hope to challenge others in furthering their passions and goals.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Anthropology

I earned a Bachelors degree from the University of Georgia in Anthropology in 2011. I am experienced with tutoring students of from elementary school to college level. My focus in Anthropology is in Physical (Evolutionary) and Cultural (Native American Studies).

Elementary (K-6th)

I have earned a M.A. in Teaching for grades 4-8th. I have years of experience working with children as young as 1st grade, especially in teaching beginning reading, phonics, fluency, comprehension and math.

Linear Algebra

I am a graduate student working on my Master's in Teaching for Middle Grades Math. I have taught one semester of 7th grade linear algebra. I have completed 9 credit hours of Middle Grades Math in addition to my undergraduate courses in Math. I have tutored several students in algebra and am confident with the content.

Prealgebra

I have been tutoring in middle grades Math for five years.
I hold a Master of Art in Teaching for Middle Grades Math.

Reading

I earned a Masters of Art in Teaching for Middle Grades Reading from Valdosta State University in 2013. As a reading teacher, tutor and Education Director, I have learned how important a solid foundation in reading is to every subject in school. I hope to inspire students to give their best effort and to persevere past their challenges, so that passion can take flight.
