About Olivia

My name is Ollie and I am currently a Psychology major at Saint Mary's College of California. I have tutored kids from ages 5 to 18 in every subject including some at the college level. Pretty much any subject that you'll need help in, I'm sure I could help. My strongest subject is Spanish. I learned Spanish at the same time as I learned English, so I'd love to tutor in that as well.

I find I have a very simple approach as to how I teach which really helps students grasp more complicated subjects and topics. School never came easy to me, so I would have to break things down into steps and think of problems more simplistically in order for me to understand them. I think that's how many other kids are as well, which is why I think I'm so successful with the kids I tutor. Current high school students I work with have raised their GPA from 2.5 to 3.8! once you get something to click, and you just really understand it, there is nothing else to worry about. I am very personable and easy to get along with. I would love the opportunity to help students in any way that I can and enable them to succeed!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Study Skills

I think I can tutor kids in study skills because my anatomy teacher in high school also had a huge part of the class emphasize study skills. He would teach us how to study based on the skills he learned in medical school. Every night you should review what you went over for the day for just 5 minutes. By the time a test comes along you will have retained so much more of the knowledge from class without even realizing it. And even if more studying is necessary you should go 5 minutes on, ten off. This will help you remember more of the things you are trying to. It also helps to study different chapters or sections of a topic in different rooms. Your brain will remember easier with a setting change that can be matched with certain information. I know it's not a lot, but this is honestly just part of the things I have learned and it is probably the best advice I have ever received. I know I can use it to help lots of kids who need to improve their test grades.
