Whether you’re looking to help your child get caught up to grade level, are looking to give your child an early head start, or want to advance their level of literacy, I can help! I’m an experienced private early literacy/ reading teacher with over 12 years of experience offering professional tutoring for students in Pre-Kindergarten- 3rd Grade in these areas: reading, phonics, comprehension, fluency, writing, handwriting, grammar, pre-literacy skills, word study, spelling and math. Research has shown how important early intervention is for children learning to read and write. It’s an area that I’m unbelievably passionate about and I’d love to use my talent and experience to help guide your child as they master these essential skills. I have 12 plus years of experience working with children who are developing their literacy skills. I use a multi-sensory based approach to aid in the development of these skills which helps the children master them quickly. My teaching background is in traditional education and I taught public school for many years, but found I found my truest match of educational philosophy as a Montessori guide. I will use the combination of these two very different approaches to education to best craft an engaging, challenging, and fun curriculum for your child. Throughout our time together, I will continue to assess where your child is performing and adjust the lessons accordingly. I commit to regular communication with my families to inform you of progress and continued areas for growth.
I also have experience in working with non-traditionalist and special learners. Throughout the years, I've worked with children who were not a "goodness of fit" in the traditional school system. By working with children who are Gifted and Talented, have attentional issues (ADD, ADHD), dyslexia, sensory integration disorders, or are somewhere on the spectrum, I have had a chance to mold and shape my curriculum content and delivery to meet their needs. Additionally, I am also very open to working with homeschool families and groups.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have attended multiple trainings pertaining to serving those with attentional issues such as ADD and ADHD. I also worked very closely for the past 4 years with my school's learning specialist to create modifications and accommodations for students with these issues.
I have attended multiple trainings on serving those with dyslexia, including a full day Orton Gillingham workshop. I have had multiple students with dyslexia in the 12 years I have taught. I use a multi-sensory approach which research has proven is most successful with this population.
I have my BS in Elementary education and have taught in a elementary classroom for over 12 years.
I have been trained in the Handwriting Without Tears curriculum, which uses best practices in writing instruction. I am experienced in teaching both print and cursive. I also have a strong background in fine motor exercises which support good handwriting.
I have had the privilege for working with a family for the last few months that homeschool their two daughters. I tutor both girls for 8 hours each week and help implement their chosen homeschool curriculum. I teach not only the lessons provided within the curriculum, but also provide additional support and instruction to supplement the lessons. I am currently in the process of becoming a vendor for one of Southern California's largest homeschooling independent study programs. I find supporting homeschooling families is very rewarding and appreciate all the flexibility that comes along with individualizing children's instruction. In addition to working with families one on one, I also have over 12 years of classroom experience. During that time, I worked closely with children and families to create plans and systems that followed the child and were tailored to their needs and interests. I feel that my experiences as a classroom teacher, tutor, and educational consultant give me a leading edge in helping homeschooling families meet success with their child's learning goals.
With over 12 years in the classroom of children who are in their sensitive period for developing literacy skills, I have a great deal of experience in delivering a strong set of phonics instruction. By using a balanced literacy framework, I add layers of multi-sensory models and approaches such as Orton-Gillingham and Secret Stories to help students gain mastery of phonics and phonemic awareness.
I have taught early elementary classes for the duration of my career and have a great passion for teaching literacy skills. I help children develop their phonemic awareness and skills to help with their decoding and encoding abilities. I utilize a combination of different reading strategies including multi-sensory approaches such as the Orton-Gillingham method.
Part of my job as a teacher is to work with families on creating systems for the home that support their child being able to study most effectively. I coach children and parents on factors that affect the quality of studying in the home environment. I've worked with many children to help them navigate larger assignments and best conditions for their success. I've also held workshops teaching these skills to families over the years.
