A lot of people think Physics is hard. It's not hard, it's just different. I can help you bridge the gap between the mindset you need to succeed in other subjects and the mindset you'll need to succeed in Physics.
I started my career as a Physicist teaching at the college level but after 6 or 7 years of that I felt I needed more real world experience so I left teaching for a twenty-year career in the industrial world, ending up as VP of Engineering at an industrial laser manufacturer. Now I've returned to my first love as a credentialed Physics teacher. I find I am most effective in a one-on-one environment so I've chosen tutoring as my avocation. I tutor in Physics and only in Physics and I bring years of teaching experience, exposure to the most modern teaching models, and many years of real-world experience to the table.
I have an M.S. in physics from Miami University and a California teaching credential from Cal State San Marcos. I taught laboratory Physics for 5 years at the University of Cincinnati, Physics and Electrical Engineering for two years at Maharishi International University, and high school Physics for one year at the Army and Navy Academy, a military boarding school here in San Diego County.
Doing Physics is like playing a game. First you learn the rules, then you learn to use those rules to your advantage. My approach is to scaffold the material by first giving specific step-wise problem solving procedures, then demonstrating those procedures and finally letting the students practice on their own with progressively less assistance from me until they can demonstrate independent proficiency.
If you feel like you've bitten off more than you can chew in this subject, or if you just want to get the most out of your class and really learn to think like a Physicist, give me a buzz. A lot of people think Physics is hard. It's not hard, it's just different. I can help you bridge the gap between the mindset you need to succeed in other subjects and the mindset you'll need to succeed in Physics.

Harry is an amazing tutor for physics. I was taking Physics 111 at MiraCosta and he was able to help with all of my difficult homework problems, even ones that my professor struggled with in class. I highly recommend Harry. He is helpful, easy to understand, conscientious about arriving on time and does not over charge for his services. I am grateful for working with him and as a result of his help and my hard work, I was able to get an A in my physics course!
There were several concepts that I wanted to review, and I had old quizzes that I wanted to review and discuss the questions that I answered incorrectly, so I scheduled a 2 hour session.
Unfortunately he agreed with some of my wrong responses, thought my responses seemed logical, and was unable to tell me why my answers were wrong.
He was able to explain some concepts, such as optics, but seemed lost on other sections.
He mentioned several times that these concepts weren't covered in regular physics classes.
Harry is a wonderful tutor! He is very patient and knowledgeable. Harry is outstanding at breaking down complex information and works with my daughter to make sure she understands the material completely. He is very committed to helping his students and has fit my daughter in for tutoring sessions with short notice. Harry is truly an outstanding tutor!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
