I am an experienced classroom teacher, seminar leader and professional feature article writer. I graduated from Olivet Nazarene College in Bourbonnais, IL. I have taught adults, high school, junior high school and elementary English, with an emphasis on reading, vocabulary, spelling, writing, drama and speech. I graduated with a 4.0 on the Dean's list from a mid-size college in Illinois.
My teaching career has taken me from secondary teacher to public relations writing and marketing. I currently work and tutor for WyzAnt Tutoring with a strong emphasis in education for my clients and students. I effectively tutor in reading, writing, grammar and public speaking, study skills and business courses which include Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and Power Point.
I have tutored numerous elementary students in reading, writing, spelling, and some math problems. My high school and college students receive help from me with regard to correct outlining methods and essay writing. After the 2007 October fires in Southern California, I tutored all elementary ages of children through SAY/San Diego, which was a tutorial program to help students with all basic skills in reading, math, social studies and science.
I worked with an international visitor from Japan beginning in 2009 through WyzAnt. He was in San Diego on business and needed help with vocabulary, reading, speech and pronunciation skills while visiting Southern California. I taught another adult female student from Vietnam all facets of speech and pronunciation. She was new to the United States. We worked together to improve her English speech and pronunciation for about ten weeks to bring her much success. In 2014 I helped a Spanish speaking student with her studies for her Series 7 Exam. Since Spanish was her primary language we worked a great deal on her grammar, and the terminology of the exam words so she had a better handle on the important words to understand the course language so she could pass the exam.
I am proud to let you know that my elementary grade student did so well in his reading, writing, vocabulary and test preparation that he was comfortable writing essays on a blogging site. Currently, I teach, reading and writing and public speaking and study skills to my students with an emphasis on organization.
It is my pleasure to assist parents and students work to have success in their studies. I enjoy tutoring my students to assist them with both basic and advanced skills within their specific study area. I look forward to helping you with your tutoring needs soon.

Sandra is an excellent tutor. She has great knowledge about financial issues and retirement plans. Our sessions have given me the best tips to achieve the goals I need to prepare myself in the study of the Series 7.
We recently started on my grammar and pronunciation of the English language to improve on my weak points, and she is really great too! She has a strong ability to build trust with the student and make you feel ready to achieve a successful outcome.
She also has a great human quality that allows her to understand different people.
Sandra has provided my son with valuable work and ideas, including monologues, demonstrations, and informative speeches! She gave my son the freedom of topic, and this really made him look forward to each and every class. I am so happy that I chose her as my son's tutor!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been a self-employed business owner for many years. When I came to Southern California I had been the owner of two Hallmark Stores, one in Illinois and Indiana. The mission statement of Hallmark is to give the customer only the best; which is what I believe I do for my students.
My career path has taken me into marketing consulting and public relations. My current field of interest is definitely tutoring; however I understand what it takes to be an administrator and executive in business.
I have helped many small businesses with their marketing and business planning. I have written more than 34 marketing and business plans, and helped business owners become successful in their specific industry.
My ultimate goal is to only tutor children and adults in the subjects I enjoy the most which includes English and good computer skills.
Through the years I have helped students with resume writing, cover letters, filling out job applications, working on interview skills and salary negotiation for the careers in different industries.
One of my clients had me review numerous resumes so we could choose the proper candidate for the project manager job the company had to fill. After reviewing more than 30 resumes I was able to help narrow down the last three candidates for the job position.
I have taught in the classroom for 6th and 7th grade students. In Southern California I have tutored a number of 5th and 6th grade students helping them with their study skills, reading, writing, spelling and teaching them how to outline for their essay work.
During the October Fires 2007 situation, I helped students from grades 4th through 8th grades with Social Studies, Math, Reading and Writing as a Team Volunteer Tutor at the Mira Mesa Library in San Diego for a number of weeks. Let's work and learn together. I will always look for improvement in your work.
English and Grammar are my favorite topics for study. I have taught English grammar at the high school and adult level to many students. I teach grammar for many students, including sentence structure, passive and active voice, all facets that make up nouns, verbs, adjectives and prepositions to name a few as part of grammar study.
My tutoring time has been with WyzAnt since 2009. I create grammar lessons customized for each student I work with during each lesson. Each student has individual needs. We do an assessment together, and then I create the best possible lessons that work for my students. Success comes with knowing the correct way to use grammar for the studies you need. You will receive much praise from me as your tutor.
I have taught literature in the classroom helping students with such authors as Shakespeare, J.R.R. Tolkien, John Steinbeck to name a few. When my children were younger we learned about life through Dr. Seuss's books. They loved all their books, especially stories of the Classics.

I have written strategic marketing plans of great length, developed action plans and taught business development planning to most of my clients.
The most enjoyable part of my marketing background is writing public relations articles, whether short articles or feature articles. Strategic planning is my expertise in the marketing field. I am currently studying more about Return on Investment (ROI) for Social Media. I would appreciate having Wyzant certify me for Marketing so I may work with new clients.
I have used everything from Windows XP, Windows 7 for more than five years and now I have Windows 8 on my new computer. Windows 8 is different than Windows 7 and uses more Apps and search boxes to find what one needs. I am enjoying Windows 8 because it gives me a larger spectrum of what to search for in my tutoring work and beyond the scope of every day computer use. I can teach both Windows 7 and Windows 8 as I have them both on my computer. It would be a pleasure to tutor students in both Windows 7 and 8 and Windows XP if a student still has that on their computer.
I can teach Word 2007. It has been on my personal computer for a number of years. I can teach word processing, intermediate task and special options to save .pdf files with new programs besides Adobe Reader. Other options are knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Power Point Presentations.
I have taught phonics both in the classroom in Illinois and to special students in 5th, 6th and 7th grades in San Diego County for their phonics studies. I do specific lessons that are the standard in California Education for each student.
I have seen success with these students after we work together in their phonics and spelling studies.
I am a WyzAnt Tutor who has taught English reading, literature, writing and proof-reading for my students when I taught in the classroom.

Please note that I have a portfolio of my work that I have done and would be pleased to offer referrals from people that I have done proof-reading for in the past and currently.

I have studied for the Series 7 exam and recently taught it to an Adult Student in 2012 who is Spanish speaking/ESL Student, and was having a hard time understanding the terminology for this very difficult exam which takes about 6 hours to take and pass the exam.
I know all of the terminology and all the different exam questions that may be on the test. It is a very difficult test similar to the CPA exam.
I would appreciate being given the opportunity to tutor for this exam. Thank you.
I am a professional seamstress and have been sewing professionally in San Diego county for more than 10 years. I have been a seamstress or a dressmaker for more than 30 years.
I would prefer to teach small classes; however I will take an individual student who is willing to do a series of classes. A different rate would apply in this case instead of my tutoring work.
I have taught speech and drama at the Junior High level as a classroom teacher. I have worked with more than 200 students in the classroom. I am giving a speech this evening on my chosen subject of "Health Reform" at a local college in San Diego County. I will be speaking for about 1 to 1 1/2 hours with the ability for the students to ask questions.
At present, I am putting together the outline for the speech. It would be my pleasure to teach speech to my students as to how to give a "winning" speech.
I worked with a WyzAnt client named Tseteo N. when he was visiting Southern California in 2009. We spent the whole week-end working on better speech and pronunciation of English words so he could do better in his business with talking to his clients. We worked the whole week-end for 10 hour days while he stayed in his hotel in La Jolla, CA. Additionally, we went to the Mall near his hotel so we could have lunch, and then walk through the mall in order for me to help him pronounce the store names and the signage as to what he saw. He found this very helpful.
I have taught other lessons to a very nice Vietnamese newly married female who needed help in her speech transition to better English. We worked for about 10 weeks just on her pronunciation and speech. A great deal of study went into her pronunciation. She recorded her own voice so she could hear how to do better pronunciation of the English language. Both of these clients were wonderful clients and our work together was very successful. You will find Tseteo's lessons on the web-site as to the work that we did.
I am a former classroom teacher having taught English in both Middle School, High School, and at the College Level.

Smiles and success go together when my students are rewarded with praise and good grades. I am passionate about helping my students to feel good about what they have accomplished.
