Whether you are a student studying English for the first time or a business professional who would like to learn to write and speak English more professionally, I can help you. I'm happy to work with your own required texts and learning materials as well as to improvise your learning experience using materials about things of particular interest to you.

Reading and writing are my two favorite subjects for which to offer help to others. I'm especially adept at working with phonics and visual aids to help students of all ages with the alphabet, vocabulary and pronunciation. Additionally, having had extensive writing experience, I am also able to help students with their grammar and sentence structure. In the case of very young students, I can also help develop their printing and penmanship skills.

My competence in English is based on receiving a B.A. from UCLA in English Literature, a Master's degree in American Studies and many years of business and academic writing, proof reading and editing experience.

Public Speaking

In my marketing/Communication career, I frequently wrote and delivered presentations on many subjects to audiences of one to upwards of 2,000. Many of the presentations were informational. Others were meant to persuade the audience to make a decision. As a human resource director, I prepared and delivered various training programs. I was very fortunate to work for one of the premier advertising agencies, Ogilvy & Mather, which placed a very high value on being able to write and speak articulately. I incorporate many things I learned at O & M about written and verbal English into my tutoring.

Study Skills

Following are some important techniques for building successful study skills: 1. Assess the student's current proficiency and academic level and customize a program for each student accordingly. Some criteria are age/grade level, academic history, favorite subjects/interests, daily schedule, study environment. 2. Offer techniques easy to undertake repetitively and independently along with a "reward" system to combat procrastination. 3. Adapt all classes to the student's current classroom needs. 4. Provide co-"study hall" with students to build success and stimulate motivation.
