I am a retired District Attorney Investigator where the majority of time was spent writing investigative reports and because I was also a white collar fraud investigator, I crunched numbers and provided excel spreadsheets to aid in prosecution. I am direct and honest and don't patronize. I will give you 100% of my time and will not waste yours. I am organized and detailed and because I was an investigator, I know how to listen attentively and will respond to your needs, whether as the student or parent of the student. I am patient and understanding and will guide you in the learning process. I am here to help.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a former deputy sheriff and retired District Attorney Investigator with over 26 years law enforcement experience. I've written numerous search and arrest warrants and was a supervisor both as an investigator and Sheriff's Sergeant. I have not tutored in criminal justice but I am a graduate of a police academy and took continuing education classes to keep my knowledge of practice and procedures up to date. I have often shared such knowledge informally with friends and family interested in pursuing law enforcement.
I have worked in elementary schools as a substitute teacher, primarily in urban schools with limited skills and ESL students. I have taught basic math and reading and writing comprehension classes; following the lesson plans provided by teachers and in some cases developing my own where none was provided. I have taught up to 30 students where skill levels varied and needed to develop methods where all students could participate. I developed ways to engage the students and provided incentives to want to learn.
I have worked as a K-12 substitute teacher as well as a youth development mentor teaching writing for a non-profit newsletter. I have studied various writing journals and teaching websites to better aid me in developing writing skills among young people such as The Art of Teaching Writing by Lucy McCormick Calkins and Edutopia.
I have taught nutrition classes to families in transition from homelessness to permanent shelter. I have guided the development of healthy eating choices among adults, youth and children and proper food preparation and cooking techniques. I have a ServSafe certificate allowing me to work in kitchens and anywhere else that meals are prepared and provided. I have completed all the necessary coursework to obtain an AA degree in Dietetics Technology.
As an 8th grade leader of an advisory group in an inner city middle school I was given the daunting task of preparing these students for high school. Part of the lunch hour was spent developing study skills and following such methods provided by outside material I gathered from research. I focused on individual students' by having them develop personal portfolios of their educational experience up to then and helped them to develop goals for the future. Use of the portfolio was a great tool that encompassed organization and time management essential for proper studying.
I am a retired District Attorney Investigator where I wrote countless investigation reports. My written reports were based on my interviews, observations and sometimes compilation of numerous financial records. Many of my written reports also were used to support arrest and search warrants that were read and approved by prosecuting attorneys and filed with the Court.
