My background includes 2 years of High School ASL 1 and 2 instruction, 4 years of K-3 ASL Enrichment classes, 30 years in the field of interpreting specializing in employment services, and college level interpretation.
I have been background checked/fingerprinted in the San Ramon School District, San Leandro and Alameda as well as the Diocese of Oakland . I have a current ID approved by the TSA/homeland security.
Considering that ASL is ranked as the 3rd most used language in the USA and that large numbers of high schools and colleges are now accepting ASL classes for second language electives, you can count yourself among the many allies of the Deaf community when you become proficient with proper tutoring.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am available to proofread essays for scholarships, resumes and cover letters. I enjoy looking over written material and can provide you with recommendations as needed. My mother was an English teacher and now my daughter has become the editor of her school poetry book. I must be doing something right!
I am qualified to tutor ASL because I have my Bachelor's Degree in Sign Language Studies, and have worked within the Deaf Community as an interpreter as well as a Job Developer for Deaf adults.
