I have a passion for writing and a desire to see others become more effective communicators through the written word.
I have taught high school English for thirteen years, focusing on writing skills, grammar, and critical reading. I have also taught 5th grade for three years, giving me proficiency in Elementary language arts. For eight years I taught an honors-level high school class intended to prepare students for the AP Language and AP Literature tests. My desire to see students succeed led me to create and teach an SAT/ACT/College Prep elective at my school in which students would practice the skills necessary to perform well on those exams as well as to prepare them for applying for both college admission and financial aid. In both this elective and my English classes, I have helped students to craft excellent college admission essays for their applications to major universities. I also provide essay and term paper writing assistance for high school and college-level students.
I have experience working with English Language Learners and learning-assisted students in the mainstream, English-only classroom. My degree in English is from the University of California, Riverside with teacher credentialing through the program at California State University, Long Beach. Todd is a very nice man who can relate to High Schoolers being a High School teacher. He appears to very knowledgeable about the purpose of College Essays and what should be their content. He worked well with my son to draw ideas out and set up a plan to approach the essays. We will be meeting again next week to review progress so we see what input and next steps will bare.
SAT preparation for upcoming test. He provided very good information, tips for essay composition and was very helpful. Worked on essay writing.
Todd G. has been a great fit for my daughter. My daughter has been working with Todd for the last month and has been working with her on writing, vocabulary and grammar. At the same time he has been going through her PSAT and working on corrections and tricks to help her better understand how to take the test in the future. Being a high school teacher helps to relate to the students. I would recommend Todd if your child needs help in English or just wants to do a PSAT/SAT prep.
Whenever his English paper was due, my son would sit for many hours at a time with a blank piece of paper in a semi-catatonic state. He kept insisting that he did not want any help. But then one night, his inspiration never came and he had to pull an all nighter. He did not have the time to get his paper done, let alone study for the math test that was due on the same day. So he finally agreed.
He would meet with Todd several days before his paper was due. During his sessions he has been able to bounce off ideas with Todd who would help him organize his thoughts and make suggestions for improvement. He enjoys getting a different perspective from someone outside of his circle. Now he has enough time to fine tune his final drafts to his own satisfaction.
Todd has been very prompt to respond and flexible with his schedule.
Todd did a great job in helping my son with his preparation for the ACT English test. He is an expert in the subject matter and an excellent communicator.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a high school English teacher with thirteen years' experience. I have also taught SAT and ACT prep electives for students wishing to improve their test-taking skills and their scores on these standardized tests.

I have taught an International Bible class which involved presenting a survey of the Old and New Testaments to ESL/ELD students at a private Christian school.
I have a religious studies degree from the University of California, Riverside. I obtained it while leading dorm-based Bible studies for InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. I have been studying the Bible for over twenty years, going so far as to take New Testament Greek at UCR to further my studies. Through my course of study and my personal studies, I have become familiar with the history and tenets of Christianity (first century, Roman Catholic, Protestant, and Orthodox, as well as modern "non-denominational" evangelicalism), Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism, Wicca, and various "New Age" beliefs. Methods courses helped me to analyze the various means of studying and evaluating religions as used by scholars and laymen.
