About Bailey

I am a current graduating senior at San Jose State University. My first experiences in tutoring began in high school when I tutored in Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, and Algebra 2. I assisted in not only content based study, but also study skills and raising confidence in the students. As a test anxiety survivor, I understand that the most difficult challenge to overcome is test anxiety. The way I teach, I try to build the confidence of my students so they don't have this test anxiety as it extremely hinders student performance.

I currently assist in the reading, writing, and math of a special needs child of the elementary age. As challenging as this may seem, I am patient and determined to help this child through the mainstream programs.

What I love about tutoring is the rise in confidence that I see in most of my students' behavior. Here I believe that tutors are not only supposed to be teaching content, but also create successful study skills, more confidence, and any other tools needed along the way.

What makes me an outstanding math tutor is the ability to work out any problem together as a team. We are not all perfect, and we make mistakes. When I'm tutoring in math, I like to think of it as a team building experience as well as content oriented.

What makes me an outstanding Sign Language tutor is that I've taken two college courses of Sign Language (the only two offered at San Jose State University). In these classes we were sent to deaf events and assigned reading to learn about deaf culture which is just as important as using sign language.

Every child has a different learning process (visual, textile, and reading). As a teacher, I try my best to discover the individuality of the child quickly, so we can begin our journey.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Flute

I have played flute for seven years. I started in elementary school all the way through college. I have been in a concert, symphonic, and marching band, so I know the different sound types.

Sign Language

I took two ASL courses at San Jose State University. I helped other students in the class. We learned not only sign language, but also about deaf culture and what that encompasses.
