About Zach

I am a recent Princeton graduate that majored in electrical engineering with a minor in computer science. When I was very young, my family moved to Chile. After living there for almost seven years and becoming fluent in Spanish, my family moved back to the US. In high school, I competed in both an academic setting as the President of my high schools 'First Tech Challenge' robotics team and in an athletic setting as a competitive ski racer in the FIS circuit. Throughout High School I tutored students and often improved their SAT scores by several hundred points.

Through my diverse educational background I have been able to observe what teaching techniques are consistently successful and utilized those techniques in my tutoring. I have observed that most of the time students simply have small gaps in their knowledge that have compounded over the years. My goal when tutoring is to identify those small gaps of knowledge in the fundamentals of a subject so that the more complex topics are easy to understand.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

C

Most of my C experience is related to computer vision work and embedded systems work through projects. I have written a lot of C code for embedded systems projects including, making an autonomous line following car and automated nerf gun turret. I am familiar with the intricacies of C as a low level language and the areas where most students struggle.

C++

Most of my C/C++ experience is related to computer vision work. I am extremely familiar with openCV and somewhat familiar with PCL. I am also familiar with many of the standard C++ libraries.

College Counseling

Having gone through the college admissions process and been admitted to Princeton University and other top US universities, I know the challenges students face to stand out from the crowd. I have helped many high school students from the Princeton area to achieve their college dreams by guiding them to highlight their strengths in their applications and essays and to find the correct college for them.

Computer Programming

I graduated Princeton with a minor in Computer Science and a major in Electrical Engineering. I have extensive experience programming in a variety of languages including but not limited to C/C++, Java, Python, Javascript.

Computer Science

I received a degree in Electrical Engineering and minor in Computer Science from Princeton University. I have worked for Tesla as a Software Engineer and am currently working for another self-driving car company as a computer vision engineer. As a result of interviewing for almost all of the top tech companies in software development, I have a deep understanding of computer science fundamentals and what is expected from a candidate in a tech interview. Furthermore, I have tutored students in computer science throughout college, often bringing their grades up by a whole grade or more.

JavaScript

During my time at Princeton, I used Javascript extensively for graphics and image processing. I very familiar with the THREE.js library and several other javascript libraries.

Linear Algebra

I have taken taken a college level linear algebra course at Princeton and used it in practice both in other courses at Princeton and everyday at my job as a computer vision engineer for a self driving car company.

Python

I have been working with python for several years doing computer vision and image processing in openCV for a top tech company. I have also utilized many other popular python libraries extensively including numpy, scipy, pygame and even tkinter for GUIs. I love using python in my tutoring to show students the fundamentals of programming without all the syntactic baggage that comes along with learning a lower level programming language like C.

R

I have extensive experience with R for data science from my studies at Princeton. I tutored multiple students in R during my time at Princeton. It is a powerful language for data science if you know its intricacies otherwise its a mess of characters.
