Hello! I used to tutor English and occasionally math at my school's library after school. I was on the swim, volleyball, and basketball team and I also took part in the marching band. I love English but I'm also good at math and I have a passion for sharing knowledge and skills.
My favorite part of being a tutor is watching someone grow and gain strength in whatever we are working on. I am people oriented and I love to make an impact, especially if it is as significant as improving a student's confidence in their work.
When I was younger My mother taught English to adult native Spanish speakers for many years and I used to go with her to her classes so I have a lot of techniques under my belt that I have used myself. I have helped three people learn English with one on one tutoring and it is the most satisfying feeling in the world to know you have taught someone something as invaluable as the ability to communicate.
I have helped countless people with their essays and their English classes. If not for me, many of my friends would not have gotten into Ivy Leagues or UCs because they would not have scored as highly without me.
I have been taking honors English my whole life and I was consistently the highest scorer in my class until high school. I am still very successful, I have consistently had very high As in my English classes and I have scored a 4 on both English AP exams.
I am currently in school, I am majoring in English in hopes of becoming an English professor so let's both work on our skills together! Hello! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
When I was younger I actually struggled with grammar because I skipped the fifth grade and that was when they taught a lot of the details of grammar. Despite this unseen setback I worked diligently with my English teacher and I can easily say that I am an expert on grammar now. I feel that my active attempt to get the one-on-one help really ingrained the information and I would love to pass on the confidence and knowledge that I was gifted.
