Scripps College (Psychology)
I'm Nikita G. and I currently work as a 5th and 6th grade science teacher at a K-8 School. I have 2 years of experience teaching in the San Jose district and I have loved every minute of it! I was born and raised in the area and truly enjoy being involved in the community and being able to provide students with the support they need outside of my regular classroom duties. I am the oldest of three children, so throughout my childhood I would tutor my younger brothers; initially with their homework and tests, and eventually proof-reading college essays and applications. I am also experienced with teaching Physical, Earth, and Life Science in middle school.
I spent three years finishing high school in India, and I am thrilled to be back in the community where I was raised. This experience abroad has helped me better understand how being new or standing out in a school or city, affects academic performance and self esteem. I believe that helping students hone their strengths and embrace their areas for improvement with a constructive mindset are key to success!
I received my undergraduate degree in psychology from Scripps College, with a strong background in biology and chemistry. I have my single- subject biology credential from Loyola Marymount University. I have always been passionate about science and I look forward to constructing an extremely enriching learning environment for students where they are able to start making their own connections between academic content and real life experiences. Even though I teach science full time, I am available to tutor other subjects.
I prefer one- on- one tutoring because I believe that undivided attention is something very hard to attain during the school day, and I would love to address all learning needs of the child to the best of my ability.
I am a recent college graduate who fulfilled the pre-medine track. I completed multiple courses in biology, chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry, physics, genetics, and psychology.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
