About Rishi

I am a dual MBA/MSE graduate of Carnegie Mellon University, and am currently working as a Senior Associate at PwC in their Advisory TICE Practice, focusing in IT Strategy and Enterprise Architecture.

During my GMAT preparation, I learned a great deal about math, numbers, grammar, and comprehension and can help you prepare for B-School, or help your little one learn to love math.

I have been playing the guitar and tabla for almost 20 years and have composed and recorded using software for both PC & Mac. It would be great to be able to help you or your little one pick up the guitar/tabla for the first time ever (or for the first time in years), help get you through your current plateau with tricks & tips, help you compose / record songs on your computer (or phone or tablet or whatever else you may have), and also help you understand music theory better (as I've studied it for four years during my bachelor's).

I enjoy spending time with my family, playing music, and continuously learning through MOOCs.

I studied Algebra in middle school (7th and 8th grade), and built on that foundation throughout high school (with pre-Cal, Calc 1, Calc2, and statistics), and in college with a business twist (Operations, Finance, Accounting, and Economics). I have seen many practical examples of how those funny equations matter in real life, and can explain them to your little one in such a way that they gain an appreciate of what math does in order to improve their fluency and aptitude.

I've obtained a 710 GMAT score, with a 49 in Quant and a 45 in Verbal. I also have countless hours studying and practicing and answering GMAT questions on forums and in study groups, and have actually graduated with an MBA from a top-20 B-School. Throughout this time I've gathered many tips, tools, and techniques to share and can help you work through any problem areas that you may have. I can also help review your entrance applications and essays (and if you are later in the process), can help in reviewing your resume and cover letters (for internships).

With over 10 years of using excel in many different practical applications, I can teach you how to create your own formula(s), understand nested ifs and how they work, and even how to connect to various databases to create dynamic dashboards with pivot tables and pivot charts/graphs.

Please reach out if you are stuck and can not move past where you are. Together we'll break that barrier and get you to new heights of learning and playing!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Business

I have a double bachelor's (Business Administration and Business Economics), 9 years of work experience, double master's (MBA and Software Engineering). I am currently working in management consulting focusing in IT Strategy. Also working on a few side businesses (including tutoring!).

Computer Programming

I have been scripting and coding since the mid-90's. For the past 8 years worked as a Software Quality Assurance Engineer focusing in Automation -- practically writing code to test other people's code. I have a Master of Software Engineering degree in which we had a 16-month, end-to-end software development studio project in which it was necessary to gather requirements, design and vet the application's architecture, create mockups and prototypes, code the actual application, and transition the application over to our client's development team for future maintenance. I am also currently creating a suite of Android and iOS apps to sell on the respective App Stores.

Computer Science

In order to further my understanding of Computer Science, I enrolled and completed the following MOOCs from Udacity, Coursera, and Standford Engineering Everywhere: Design and Analysis of Algorithms (bitly.com/UPxtfG), Cryptography (bit.ly/TfCurv), Introduction to Artificial Intelligence (http://bit.ly/Rovdry), Building a Search Engine (http://bit.ly/SfXDqi), and Programming a Robotic Car (http://bit.ly/R9dbI0). I also have a Master's in Software Engineering in which the pre-requisite is substantial work experience or an undergraduate computer science degree.

Discrete Math

Discrete mathematics was pre-requisite knowledge for entrance into my Masters of Software Engineering program at Carnegie Mellon University. Without formal classwork, I was able to learn everything required for the program through a self-study using the Stanat and McAllister, Discrete Mathematics in Computer Science textbook, and was able to put this into practice in our first course Models of Software Systems.

Econometrics

One of my undergraduate degrees is a Bachelors of Science in Business Economics. This degree required extra quant and statistics courses on top of Intro to Econometrics and Advanced Econometrics. I have furthered my statistical knowledge by pursuing my MBA and have continued adding to this technical skill set. The MBA also taught us another important skill: making decisions based off of the statistical data that we receive. So I am able to not only perform the data crunching, but also take a step back and glean actionable insights from the data.

Guitar

I have over 20 years of playing guitar and tabla (started tabla when I was 7 and guitar when I was 11 -- I am now 31). During my business undergrad, I studied Music Theory for four years along with the music majors. Throughout my life, I've been a part of a few different bands and have played in many live shows (all of them volunteer).

JavaScript

I have been scripting and coding since the mid-90's. For the past 8 years I worked as a Software Quality Assurance Engineer focusing in Automation -- practically writing code to test other people's code. One of the tools we used was the Selenium IDE, which required detailed knowledge of Javascript and scripting practices. I have a Master of Software Engineering degree in which we had a 16-month, end-to-end software development studio project in which we needed to generate HTML5 / Javascript code using Java frameworks.

Linux

I have been dabbling in web-design since the mid-90s and have stood up multiple Linux boxes to host websites and to sell web hosting. I understand all of the basic tools required to use various Linux distros from Ubuntu to Red Hat to the hacking distro Backtrack.

Marketing

Aside from my undergraduate business degrees and the coursework that I took there, I focused on Marketing as a concentration during my MBA. I took classes such as New Product Management, Pricing Strategy, and Marketing Management. In our MBA capstone, I was the Marketing lead and was tasked with forecasting the marketing demand and budgeting our marketing spend globally, each period (over the course of a semester). This work also needed to be logical, prepared, and presented to our board of directors.

Microsoft Access

As a volunteer at a summer camp over 15 years ago, I used MS Access for storing and registering camp attendees. In a later job, Access was the main database -- used it to store data for the custom app that the office was using, and also wrote custom Crystal Reports to display it's data. That database was very slow and unreliable, so re-designed it from scratch to follow the standard normalized format. Use it whenever a local database solution is acceptable.

Microsoft Outlook

I have been in the corporate environment for over 12 years and have used Outlook in almost every single company I have worked for. I know about shortcuts, tips, tricks to using Outlook, along with other plugins and apps available to make it more efficient.

Microsoft Project

I used Project for the past 7 years as the primary project management tool in the software development companies I have worked for. I am currently helping a company re-plan their Plan as they under-estimated their effort and blew past their promised dates. Using a combination of tools, project settings, resource leveling, and every trick up our sleeve to re-plan a 3000 line project plan as quickly and efficiently (and as automated) as possible.

Microsoft Windows

I have been using Windows since Windows 3.1 and know and understand the intricacies of the various Windows Operating Systems. Understanding this functionality was imperative while I tested native Windows clients in various industries from healthcare to telecom. I have owned and used every single version of Windows up to Windows 7, and will soon be upgrading my PCs to Windows 10!

Python

I used Python in two Udacity courses: Building a Search Engine (CS101 http://bit.ly/SfXDqi) and Programming a Robotic Car (CS373 http://bit.ly/R9dbI0). I have used Python to complete all required coursework for a Master's class Personal Software Process (PSP) in which many types of programs were created.

Web Design

Have been creating websites since 1994. I was the web master for our temple's website in the late 1990's. I have worked in Software Quality Assurance for over 8 years and understand the details of what is required to build and maintain a successful website.
