About Kevin

I excel at explaining technical concepts to creative people, and creative concepts to technical people. If you're overwhelmed by the number of buttons in Photoshop or Maya, or you know the software but want some help on making your stuff look great, I'd love to work with you. I also love to work with younger students, helping them launch their artistic journey.

My Experience:
I have three years professional experience as a 3d artist, two as a freelancer working on indie film and game projects, and one as modeler/technical artist for a marketing company. Prior to that, Prior to that, I got a bachelor's degree with high distinction in animation from California College of the Arts.

While at California College of the Arts I worked as a tutor both for my peers and for middle school students in a disadvantaged neighborhood. Since graduating, I have tutored both adults and teens part-time.

What I offer:

One Off Software Help: If you're new to a program, or need help figuring out how to achieve a particular effect, I can get you going in one or two sessions. I am comfortable teaching Photoshop, Maya, Blender, ZBrush, Unreal Engine, Substance Painter, and Substance Designer.

Ongoing Art Mentorship: I can offer ongoing support in learning any mixture of digital art, traditional art, game design, and programming. This is great for middle to high school students considering pursuing digital art seriously, self-taught artists or recent college graduates looking to prepare a professional portfolio, or dedicated adult hobbyists.

Programming for Creatives: If you come from a creative background and are looking to incorporate programming in your work, I can help you out. I can teach addon development for Photoshop, Blender, and Maya using Python, and data visualization using Processing (a JavaScript variant).

Art School Application Help: Most high school counselors aren't familiar with the process of applying to art schools. If you or your child is looking to apply to art schools, I can help you figure out what program is the best fit, and put together a top-notch portfolio.
