National Taiwan Normal University (English as a second)
University of Kansas (Master's)
Dear Students and Parents,
I am currently a California Single Subject credentialed teacher for Mandarin Chinese. I have been teaching at California public schools for several years. My experiences of teaching, however, did not start at California. After graduating from National Taiwan Normal University, which is a prestigious college that develops and shapes future teachers in Taiwan, I taught 4 years of ESL in Taiwan before I came to the US for my graduate study in Linguistics.
At the University of Kansas, where I received my master degree, I was a research assistant at Linguistics department and a teaching assistant at the department of East Asian Language and Culture, where I taught elementary Chinese level I and II. Upon my graduation, my master degree thesis received honor award. I also co-authored a couple of articles with my graduate advisor and myself also authored one article about Chinese verb constructions.
With my teaching experiences and strong linguistics knowledge, I decided to start my teaching career here in the US. I found myself having fun teaching and enjoying interacting with my students and seeing them excel to their potentials.
My teaching philosophy is that teaching has to be student-centered. Students are the one to decide what to learn and want to learn and teachers as a facilitator. My focus will be on how to get students motivated and to understand the content area and to acquire or learn the content knowledge and skills the most efficient way. To reach my goal, I utilize the 21st century learning model, which is integrating content, pedagogy, and technology.
Finally, I would talk about what my students said about me. My students always said that I made them laugh everyday and they enjoyed my class all the time. You will find my students engaged very much in learning activities if you visit my classroom.
Do I have any tutoring experiences? YES!!! My first job, while still in college in Taiwan, was tutoring a middle school teenage girl. I had many years of experiences of tutoring but I do not tutor my own classroom students because it is against my philosophy. Dear Students and Parents,

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
