About John

I am currently teaching ESL Adult Education for a local Silicon Valley school district. As a public school teacher I have current TB, personal and professional references as well as fingerprint documentation on file with Santa Clara County. I have been teaching since 1985 and have full current California subject matter (ESL/Language Arts/English) certification K - Adult. For over ten years I taught at the college level in Tokyo including teaching in the literature department at Waseda University, one of the top schools in Japan. I have an M.A. in Applied Linguistics from Teachers College, Columbia University in New York, an M.A. in Public Administration from Roosevelt University in Chicago and a B.A. in English from the University of Houston. After returning from Japan, I taught full time for eight years in a variety of language arts classes at the public middle and high school levels in San Jose and Chicago.

Most recently I have been teaching a variety of adult classes including one-on-one tutoring classes with business workers who have just arrived in Silicon Valley from overseas. If you are preparing to take the TOEIC or a similar test I can help you prepare for it. Groups can be accommodated with an adjusted rate. At the present time I am primarily seeking adult students. Most of my current students work for local high tech companies. If you are an engineer or work in the I.T. field I can help you to improve your English and be more
effective and successful at work.

If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
