Science: I have had the pleasure of serving as a high school science chair teaching chemistry and physics. My focus for the past few years has been tutoring Chemistry (AP, and Honors) as well as College Chemistry.
Math: I have several years experience tutoring/teaching Algebra 2 , Pre-calculus, Calculus, and Linear Algebra. In college, I have taught algebra, pre-calculus, and calculus. I’ve also spent time in the math tutoring lab in a local college.

Technology: I have taught Java and C++ to students and working engineers and prepared and taught courses in image processing, computer architecture, and color science. My experience is rich in that I have not only taught my subjects but also used them in industry as a researcher and developer. I have been told, "Not only am I impressed with your depth of knowledge but also with your ability to take such a difficult subject and make it so simple and understandable." I have excellent reviews from my former students and will share them upon request.

I love the subjects which I teach and the personal attention I can give my students as a tutor.

Thanks for reading my profile.

Computer

C,

C

I have worked for JPL, Dataproducts, and Adobe Systems as a computer scientist. In that capacity I wrote and maintained programs written in C. These programs were large code bases such as those used for Photoshop, etc. I have more than 20 years of experience in using computer programming languages.
C++,

C++

I have written and maintained very large code bases in C++ and Java for Adobe Systems. I have more than 20 years of experience in computer science. I wrote code for Photoshop, core technologies, and the PDF Print Engine.
Computer Programming,

Computer Programming

I have over 30 years of experience programming computers of various capabilities. I am experienced in writing assembly code for microprocessors as well as coding in PLM, PL-I, C, C++, Java, and PERL. I am also capable of scripting for Unix/Linux shells.
General Computer,

General Computer

I have years of experience with not only the software and applications that run on computer systems but also the hardware. I have written a pc bios, scientific computing and control applications for a jet propulsion laboratory. I am familiar with the Office applications from Microsoft as well as their compilers. I can describe the action of bus cycles on Intel microprocessor chips. I generally know computers inside and out but can make understanding them simple.
Java

Java

I not only have extensive work experience using Java in products with large code bases, but I also have experience designing and giving classes to students from high school to working engineers wanting to learn the subject. I have also mentored several interns in the use of Java as they progress through their engineering careers.

Algebra 2,

Algebra 2

I have several years experience teaching algebra 2 at the high school level and have also had the pleasure of teaching the equivalent course at the college level. My experience is not only in the classroom but also as a tutor in the mathematics tutoring lab at CSULA. Since I have also worked as a researcher and developer in "corporate America", I can easily share the relevance of algebra in the technical workplace. Yes, I have used high school algebra in my research.
Calculus,

Calculus

I have more than 90 Graduate units in pure and applied mathematics and have taught Calculus at both the high school and college level (CSULA). Over the past several years I have tutored many students in AP calculus, college level Calculus both one and several variables at CSUSJ, SCU and CSUSF, Linear Algebra at CSUSJ, SCU and CSUSF, Abstract Algebra at West Valley College, Differential Equations at West Valley College.
Chemistry,

Chemistry

I have taught Chemistry at several high schools and enjoyed it greatly. I also enjoy watching the light go on when my students get those problems they thought were tough. I have had the pleasure of being a high school Science Chairman, teaching and designing the chemistry curriculum. I also have work experience as a Medical Lab Tech running blood chemistry tests. My education includes a B.A. in chemistry, a B.A. in mathematics plus 90 graduate units in pure and applied mathematics. I absolutely love science.
Geometry,

Geometry

I have taught geometry at several high schools and enjoy this part of the curriculum especially. This is because my graduate work was in mathematical logic (which fascinates me). Geometry is the first high school experience a student has with logic as an explicit part of mathematics. My deep understanding of logic allows me to make Geometry simple and understandable.
Precalculus

Precalculus

Every teacher/tutor has his favorite math class that he loves to teach, and Pre-Calculus (along with two others) is one of my favorites. I have taught this class at several high schools and many, many times in college. My pre-calculus students are positively prepared for calculus.

During my undergraduate study, I took full quantifier calculus including identity and description in the philosophy department and mathematical logic in the mathematics department. During my graduate studies, I have taken two semesters of Godel-Bernays set theory in the philosophy department and one full year of Zermelo Fraenkel Set theory, including decidability and completeness theory in the mathematics department. I continue to study order relations and order theory on my own.

C++

James knows his stuff when it comes to coding with C++. Patiently working with him, he's helped my son gain a better understanding of a difficult subject. I also appreciate how he shows up on time and is ready to work.

Amazing tutor

He listens to what you have to say then let's you know what he thinks. He teaches things in a way that you understand and if you don't then he'll try multiple ways until you understand the topic.

Hema, 13 lessons with James

Good follow up as a tutor

James helped me with a tough class assignment. When we ran out of time during our tutoring session, he followed up via email with the last of the information that I needed to complete my work. I really appreciated his follow up.

Scott, 15 lessons with James

Very considerate and a great teacher!

James knows how to communicate and will help you with whatever is most challenging, and in my case it was C++. Although it was only my first lesson with James, I can tell that I am going to ask him for help in the near future.
