I tutor math and science to high school students and college students. I tutor Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, pre-Calculus, general Chemistry and Physics. I work primarily in and around the Almaden area of San Jose.
Math (and science) can be daunting for students. When they fall behind they get frustrated and lose motivation. Some just give up. My objective is to first gain the student's trust, then get them caught up on content and assignments. As they gain understanding their confidence builds and they realize that they can succeed at math and maybe even secretly enjoy it. Building confidence is the key to success.
Tutoring is a good solution and it works best when you begin the tutoring early in the term. The extra time with one to one instruction and help gives students freedom to explore and question, learn the material and become confident in it.
I graduated from San Jose State University with a BS in Chemistry and a minor in Physics. I completed course work for a Master's Degree in Natural Science. Then I taught high school mathematics for 2 years. I hold a lifetime secondary teaching credential in California.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I tutor in several subjects, including SAT Math. Generally for SAT Math prep, I recommend a minimum of 4 one and a half (1.5) hour sessions, and perhaps an extra session for a timed and scored practice test. SAT Prep involves a significant commitment on the part of the student. I assign practice tests to be done between sessions and we work through all of those problems. You can definitely improve your SAT math score with practice, and the practice is certainly more valuable with a guide to provide explanations and strategies. Strategies are key because the types/forms of problems on the SAT are the same from test to test.
I also tutor Chemistry, Physics, Algebra 1-2, Geometry, and pre-Calculus.
