About Martin

"Give a man a fish, feed him for a day...teach a man to fish, feed him for a lifetime."

Applying this philosophy, I'll teach you how to study so that eventually you will become your own tutor! With the right study skills, students can learn to conquer any subject they put their minds to. It's not WHAT you study, it's HOW!

Now, if you are looking for a tutor that makes learning definitely NOT BORING, you've found the right one. Working with you, we'll explore the WHY behind so many academic issues. This will make memorization no longer necessary and put you well on your way to getting those grades you've dreamed of while enjoying yourself.

I'm a native Spanish speaker, and I've taught Spanish for all levels from elementary school to college. With a bachelors degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus on Education from UC Berkeley, I am so ready to teach you Spanish, Math, or Music with enthusiasm and spunk.

Thanks for reading!

I look forward to hearing from you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have worked as an elementary school substitute in the Berkeley Unified School District since 2006, I have passed both the CBEST and CSET and currently hold a valid 30 day emergency teaching 30 day credential. I have been recommended by teachers to other teachers for my superior class management skills. I have excellent command of most elementary school curricula and look forward to working with private students through WyzAnt.

Thank you for the opportunity.

Martin B.

I've been studying piano since age 5. I have studied with private teachers for 23 years and have studied at a collegiate level at both UC Berkeley and at The Jazzschool Institute in Berkeley, CA. At the latter, I have, since two years, begun a Bachelors of Music in Jazz Studies Degree. I am a great teacher with tons of experience, and currently have piano students on my own. I'm looking forward to getting some more students through WyzAnt.

Thank you!

I've been swimming my whole life, and pride myself on my excellent stroke and my ability to develop fun and interactive curricula for my students.

I've taught mostly in public pools (i.e. Temescal pool in Oakland, Ca.), but also in quite a number of private homes.

I'm strongest at crawl and breast stroke, but competent and skillful in all main strokes as well.
