Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Career Development

As the coordinator of the a high school's College and Career Center, for 3 years from 2008 – 2011, I developed tutorials, counseled students and taught workshops on career planning, determining and developing volunteer work plans, resume writing, starting a business, job interviewing, and job hunting strategies and skills. I was named Volunteer of the Year in 2011 for both Campbell Union High School District of Education and Prospect High School for these exceptional programs I developed and led.
I also have read a lot of books about the subjects such as "What Color is My Parachute", "Do What You Are" (Myers Briggs Test based book), "Work with Passion", etc.,and explored many many career planning websites, studying the subject in depth.

College Counseling

I have a lot of experience helping students write their college essays. I make the process fun and rewarding, working step by step with students, helping them determine their themes and supporting details, expressed in their own unique voice. I make sure the structure is iron clad and the essays are well edited.

I was the coordinator of a high school college and career Center, counseling students, developing tutorials, and teaching workshops on college essays writing, college planning, applying for colleges, FAFSA, and getting scholarships.

Elementary (K-6th)

I teacher K-6 students as a substitute teacher and as a tutor in Math, English, Science, Social Studies, Computers.

I have 6 years of experience teaching reading comprehension, analysis of literature, writing and presentation skills in English for elementary school, middle high school students and adults. I am very supportive, flexible and results oriented, working with students every step of the way to customize the sessions to meet their needs.

I have a lot of experience teaching grammar as a tutor and substitute teacher both through grammar exercises and discussion and editing of student writing.

I am very positive, supportive, understanding and results oriented. I work with the student and their family to customized the lessons for different learning styles and to fit the needs of the students.

Students complete the sessions confident and energized, feeling like they have made a quantum leap understanding and using grammar correctly.

I look forward to working with you. Contact me if you have any questions. I'm ready to start anytime.

I have taught children to read using phonics as a substitute teacher and a tutor. I am familiar with many books, movies, flash cards and other resources for teaching phonics. I use different methods depending on the student's learning style, such as teaching visual learners with pictures, kinesthic learners with games such as matching object to pictures of object that begin with the letter sounds, audio learners with songs, etc.

Study Skills

I am qualified to teach study skills. I know how to teach students how to take notes in class and while reading, how to get an overview of their reading before they start reading the details so they remember what they read, and scheduling the proper intervals to review the material so it is remembered.

Great Tutor — Betsy is a great tutor. She helped my son to develop confidence in writing. Before he started working with Betsy, he had a hard time doing any writing homework and he couldn't complete classroom writing assignments on time. After working for 4 days with Betsy he had 3 writing exams and he was able to finish them on time and his grades were good. She is easy to work with, understanding, and goal-or ...
