Betsy is a great tutor. She helped my son to develop confidence in writing. Before he started working with Betsy, he had a hard time doing any writing homework and he couldn't complete classroom writing assignments on time. After working for 4 days with Betsy he had 3 writing exams and he was able to finish them on time and his grades were good. She is easy to work with, understanding, and goal-oriented.
Betsy always works hard and tries to develop the essay better and better. I am really glad we found her and started the lessons.
Since starting work with Betsy our son has developed much more confidence in his writing! She is always positive and patient.
Betsy is a very conscientious tutor! When I first talked to her, you can tell the difference comparing to the other tutors I had for my son in the past. Betsy spends time to understand her student's urgent needs and what the strengths and weaknesses of her student are and then use the suitable teaching method to help her student.
Betsy also communicates with parents well and make sure she pursues the goals that student and parents expect in each tutor session. Betsy does a great job in preparing material/thoughts, class session and also the follow-up afterwards.
My son is a college student and he got an "A" on his English essay class with Betsy's help during the whole semester! Betsy understands and manages well with a college student's busy schedule. My son gains his confidence back because of Betsy's professional knowledge and attitude.
We are lucky to find Betsy. She is patient, energetic and really helps!
Betsy is a 6 star tutor!! We used her to "fast-track" our daughter through the final weeks before her SAT tests. Betsy focused only on what was required to match our daughters needs and they worked hard together. The result is a teen who is now fully prepared for her SAT and confident that she will achieve a great score. THANK-YOU Betsy !!
Betsy has been tutoring my first grade son for almost 5 months. Since she started the two-week tutoring program, my son’s teacher and I have noticed major improvement in his English language skills. He literally improved from level 2 reading to mastering level 18 in about three months. Besides, she clearly demonstrates her passion toward teaching and improving the kids education and pays major attention to praising the kids development which boosts their confidence. I listed below some of Betsy skills/strengths:
-Exhibits a great deal of patience while tutoring.
-Covers many areas in her teachings (grammar, reading, writing, comprehension and even science) with the focus of critical areas.
-Aligns her teachings according the feedback received from school/parents.
-Motivates the kids to expand their knowledge in multiple fields.
-Brings tools, books and other useful educational objects every class.
-Demonstrates precise time schedule (very accurate session timings) and time management during the class.
-Has a wonderful personality and establishes a strong relationship with the kids making them love her session.
-Flexible with class schedule modifications due to unexpected events.
All in all, I am proud of the my son development and very thankful to Betsy.
Betsy has been tutoring my 3rd grade daughter for reading/writing. Betsy is very passionate about tutoring with each lesson. She loves her job and has been extremely patient with my child who has difficulty focusing. Betsy finds ways to make the lessons fun and educational. She communicates well with the parents to understand the strengths and interests of her student so that she can incorporate these into the lessons. Betsy is very creative and has many ideas to make learning fun. Betsy's dedication to teaching is clear because my child's reading and writing skills have improved.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
As the coordinator of the a high school's College and Career Center, for 3 years from 2008 – 2011, I developed tutorials, counseled students and taught workshops on career planning, determining and developing volunteer work plans, resume writing, starting a business, job interviewing, and job hunting strategies and skills. I also have read a lot of books about the subjects such as "What Color is My Parachute", "Do What You Are" (Myers Briggs Test based book), "Work with Passion", etc.,and explored many many career planning websites, studying the subject in depth.
I have a lot of experience helping students write their college essays. I make the process fun and rewarding, working step by step with students, helping them determine their themes and supporting details, expressed in their own unique voice. I make sure the structure is iron clad and the essays are well edited.

I have taught children to read using phonics as a substitute teacher and a tutor. I am familiar with many books, movies, flash cards and other resources for teaching phonics. I use different methods depending on the student's learning style, such as teaching visual learners with pictures, kinesthic learners with games such as matching object to pictures of object that begin with the letter sounds, audio learners with songs, etc.
I am qualified to teach study skills. I know how to teach students how to take notes in class and while reading, how to get an overview of their reading before they start reading the details so they remember what they read, and scheduling the proper intervals to review the material so it is remembered.
