Hello - I'm Ryan! I help students master the SAT. I achieved a perfect 800 on both the SAT Math and Verbal sections, but I understand standardized tests often feel very intimidating and overwhelming. I focus on building the confidence, skills and habits of mind which enable my students to excel on the SAT.

Success on the SAT is simple - it requires being able to:

(ii) express oneself clearly and concisely

Success on the SAT is simple - it requires being able to:
(i) read critically, carefully and attentively
(ii) express oneself clearly and concisely
(iii) take problems and break them down into their component parts
That's it! I'm confident that students of any background can solidify these skills through deliberate practice and careful coaching.

--- A bit more about Biology ---
I study biology at Carleton College where I have a 4.0 GPA in my major, though most of my knowledge of the life sciences has come via research. I've worked on projects ranging from the neural basis of cognition at MIT and UCSF, to the origin/evolution of life with researchers at Woods Hole, and grassland and kelp forest conservation at Carleton and the University of Washington. I'm also a trained naturalist, divemaster, and inveterate reader of natural history, field guides and ecological/evolutionary theory.

I focus on helping students build the technical skills required to excel in the life sciences. But I believe it's equally important to connect these skills to bigger picture questions/ideas - that's where a sense of wonder and excitement comes in!

I'm happy to help with APs and subject tests for both Chemistry and Biology or in any other context.

Knowledgeable and Expert Tutor

Ryan helped me improve all of my chemistry skills and covered all topics that were taught in my class. He's helped me prepare for my AP Chemistry exam and he even bought the AP Chemistry 2021 prep test book so that we could go over the material together. It was a very professional tutoring environment. He's very flexible with the scheduling and gives fast responses. I definitely feel a lot more confident in Chemistry because of him!

Absolute Pro

I have now met with a couple different tutors for neurobiology before I met Ryan and he is by far the best. He is extremely patient and I always leave feeling relieved about how much more clarity I have on the topic. The session is usually an hour but Ryan puts in whatever time is needed before hand, in order for the session to be efficient and effective. I wish I could hire this tutor for the rest of my classmates struggling in this course. I think it’s also important to mention that he helped me with a graduate level Biology course that consists of many research articles that require a full understanding. This is comes to show that if Ryan is able to master a topic like this as quickly and as effectively as he did, he’d have no problem teaching any other topic a student could throw at him.
