I recently graduated from Stanford University with a B.A in Art History and minors in Creative Writing and Modern Languages. I've tutored writing and languages throughout the world, including in Italy, Ecuador, Colombia, India, and Laos. I have five years of experience teaching writing skills, ESL, and Spanish. I also have extensive experience offering college counseling and test prep.
I've taught both research and creative based writing to middle school and high school students for a total of five years. I help students learn how to brainstorm topics, organize their ideas, and structure a compelling essay. I also help students with vocabulary building. I've taught English as a Second Language classes for a number of years in California, Italy, Laos, and Colombia. I focus on pronunciation, conversation, and advanced grammar topics, such as phrasal verbs.
I began learning Spanish in an academic setting, and after spending over two years traveling in Latin America, I'm now often mistaken for a native speaker. I even taught a class in Spanish for two years at Stanford! My unique learning experience means I know both formal and colloquial Spanish, and that I know how Spanish is taught in an academic setting.
I've worked with high school juniors and seniors through every step of the college application process, from deciding which colleges are the best fit for them to writing essays and personal statements that best highlight their unique set of academic strengths and life experiences. I know how to push students to turn an ordinary college essay into a memorable one.
