I am a math/reading/writing and organizational skills tutor for students from kindergarten to college. A little bit about me:

In May 2015, I graduated summa cum laude from the Dominican University of California, where I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies/Teacher Education, a minor in mathematics and Honors. While at Dominican, I had ample classroom and one-on-one experience with students. I worked as an assistant teacher in six different elementary school classrooms (ranging from kindergarten to fifth grade) throughout Marin County. In addition, I worked as one of the mathematics, statistics and liberal studies tutors at Dominican's Teaching Learning Center (TLC). In my one-on-one with undergraduates, I helped students who initially struggled with concepts to ultimately master the material. Further, I helped develop students' study, test-taking, organization, and problem-solving skills. My experience also includes tutoring high school students privately.

In the fall of 2015 I lived in Portland where I was a tutor for elementary through college levels with Cornerstone Learning. From February 2016 to present, I have been a tutor with Tutor Corps and Varsity Tutors in San Francisco. I have had experience tutoring numerous students from kindergarten up to high school in mathematics (elementary, pre-algebra, algebra I, algebra II, geometry, trigonometry and functions/pre-calculus) as well as reading, writing and organizational skills.

I also have a passion in working with students who struggle with learning differences. At the age of eight, I was diagnosed with ADD and throughout my years in education, I worked hard to gain the skills and strategies that would help me succeed and progress despite my learning differences. As a tutor and teacher, I have a strong understanding of the needs of students. I am passionate about helping every individual go above and beyond, no matter what his or her learning style is. One of my most gratifying teaching experiences was tutoring a first grader who struggled with ADHD. He had been held back for two years in a row, but after a semester of working one-on-one with him using visuals and skills/strategies that worked best for him, this student began acing all of his tests and moved onto second grade at the end of the semester.

In addition to teaching math, I also enjoy teaching dance and choreographing. I have danced with Garrett+Moulton Productions, SpectorDance, Peter & Co., Labayen Dance and SOULSKIN Dance, among other Bay Area dance projects. My original and collaborative works have been set on several professional Bay Area dancers and companies and I’ve shown my work at numerous festivals nationwide. As a choreographer, I’ve been granted residencies at Bay Pointe Ballet, LEVYdance, SAFEhouse Arts, Mark Foehringer Dance Project|SF and Marin Dance Theatre. I teach all levels of contemporary dance, choreography, ballet, and core strength at several dance schools throughout the Bay Area.

Clear and Meaningful Tutoring

My daughter has been working with Alyssa for a couple of weeks now and we have already noticed a significant change in her confidence in Math. Alyssa very clearly explains concepts and helps guide my daughter through problems. Alyssa also provides a detailed summary of what they cover in each session which I find useful.

Excellent!

Alyssia was very accommodating. I was able to schedule an appointment right away. She was very prompt getting back to me regarding setting time and place. My son isn't very interested in math since he is so behind on the subject. Alyssia was able to bring him back to basics and build him up so he understood how to solve problems better. We will definitely be aquiring her services again.
