About MacNeill

I graduated from both the New York Film Academy, and later the University of New York, Tisch School of the Arts. Both gave me a ton of experience working on short films, and editing both manually (on the Steenbeck 16mm machine) and on Avid and Final Cut Pro. Also, I learned about sound recording and cinematography. Later, I edited documentaries and worked as a Production Assistant on commercials.

In 2004 I moved to California and began working with Edelman Productions out of Corte Madera. There, I worked on design shows for HGTV and historical recreation shows for The History Channel ("Man, Moment, Machine"). Around this time I freelanced with many other companies, such as the US Navy, NBC, Apple, and others. It was a time of rich learning.

However, my number one priority when I see or try to work on a film is: the story. The emotion. It's always the most important thing. All technical tools are just that - tools, to be used in the service of the story.

I am well-grounded in film theory and history, and frankly adore films. I am patient, and have a knack for explaining things in ways people can understand. Brainstorming is so much fun!

I'd love to talk with you about your project idea!
