About Jason

In the past, I've taught in various settings. This experience teaching students includes both in a classroom environment to groups and individuals, as well as private tutoring. My past students have been of all ages and have started out with varying levels of programming/computer experience. Any level can improve and like I did with students in the past, I intend to help students grow more comfortable with computers and code.

I've been coding for years and am proficient with Ruby and Ruby on Rails, JavaScript, frameworks like React, and the fundamentals of HTML and CSS. I've won numerous hackathons and accolades that demonstrate this proficiency. Though, the most rewarding aspect of programming has been sharing my knowledge with students.

Specifically, the most rewarding part of teaching is the joy and satisfaction students get when their code works and they have learned to build something they previously thought was too difficult for them.

Students can sometimes feel that computer programming and web development is too tough, but I like to deconstruct challenges into small and solvable steps toward a solution. It's an amazing feeling to be a builder/producer/creator -- especially online so that many many many people can enjoy your work -- and this feeling is the feeling each of your lessons has as the thread laced throughout it.

With many years of experience, I especially enjoy helping new developers learn sold fundamentals. Though, advanced topics are always fun to explore and can be a good way to show how to learn and problem solve. From the basics to difficult computer problems, I love a challenge and to help others solve theirs. There are certainly many areas of computer programming to learn and I specialize in web fundamentals and JavaScript.

I hope you'll reach me so I can help you begin learning web development and computer programming!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Computer Programming

As an active web developer, I am constantly programming. That means I am writing, reviewing, refactoring, and testing code. It excites me to take this experience and teach it to others. I am happy to create and practice examples/challenges I create, as well as help you work though computer programming issues you have.

CSS

With thorough and advanced knowledge of CSS as an active web developer, I have the experience to teach and tutor all areas involving CSS. Whether you are trying to learn the basics/fundamentals, or use advanced techniques to make designs pixel-perfect, I can get you there. Not only that, but I can make learning and practicing CSS fun.

HTML

I have a profound knowledge and respect for HTML as it is part of the foundation or "building blocks" that serves all of the internet. My experience with HTML dates back many many years, but it also includes the latest versions (currently HTML5).

JavaScript

JavaScript can be tough to learn or put in practice, but I have a lot of experience both using the language myself, as well as teaching it to others. In both classroom and tutoring settings, I have helped students learn JavaScript. It's a great feeling when you can add dynamic actions and capabilities to a static site... and I'm excited to have you experience that feeling too.

JQuery

Given ample knowledge of both "plain-vanilla JavaScript" and jQuery, I can help you add action and function to a website. It's fun to learn jQuery because you really watch your work come to life. I've shared that feeling with many of my previous students and I hope you'll experience it too.

Ruby

Ruby was the first programming language I learned many years ago and I've been using it in many of my coding projects on a constant basis. There's a lot that Ruby can do, and I'm looking forward to the opportunity to teach you Ruby. Furthermore, I'm happy to teach popular frameworks like Sinatra and Rails (RoR) too.

Knowledgeable and patient — I contacted Jason because I desperately needed help with HTML and CSS. He was able to meet up with me the next day. Jason awesome, very knowledgeable and has the patience to walk you through the subject. He's not egotistical like some tutors I've had in the past. I told him what I need help and to please keep it basic, most tutors in the past will overload you with excessive knowledge that you for ...
