About Alahna

Born in Colorado, I have just recently moved to San Francisco to study Illustration at California College of the Arts. With a longing for creating art, I wish to share my knowledge and passion with others who may be interested.

I have won several art awards such as two Silver Scholastic Art Awards, and one Gold Scholastic Art Award, among others. Going from being a self-taught artist to attending an art college, I have a vast array of traditional tools and skills under my belt. Working in graphite, charcoal, ink, markers, watercolor, gouache, acrylic, and more. I am open to teaching you the best ways to use the tools you may be interested in learning.

Being an avid reader, I was able to score a 31 in ACT reading. I see reading as very important for finding inspiration in my creative practice. Conceptualizing stories is the basis of my artwork. From concept to construct, I see reading as a way to organize my thoughts. Creating pieces of art and reading go hand in hand because of the imagination behind both. I plan on being able to teach you how to summarize a book to its simplest, yet most important details. Breaking down segments into smaller details is key when reading, and makes it easier to comprehend.

A student leader and active participant in the community, I enjoy spending time meeting new people and sharing my knowledge with others. I am now branching out to share my experiences and knowledge with the community. I will work together with students to help them create their own personal goals that they wish to accomplish through tutoring. As a tutor I want to make learning enjoyable, all while accommodating the different learning styles that each student may have. I hope to spark a passion for learning, in my students all while developing their confidence in their knowledge and themselves.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Drawing

Drawing is the basis for most art, everything starts off with a sketch, piece of paper and a pencil. Teaching the basic elements and principles of design is a start that we can improve upon. Working with negative space, contrast, line, and others. I took a drawing class in high school, and in college. As an art student drawing is a necessity for me to have, and I want to have the opportunity to let someone else see into that world.

Painting

My freshman year of high school I took a painting class with an amazing teacher, and have painted ever since. I have submitted paintings into the Scholastic Art and Writing Competition for the Colorado Region and had won Silver. As well as competitions I have been commissioned for paintings, and want to share some of my techniques with students who are interested in this form of art. This year in college I am also taking an oil painting class as well, so I will be painting along with my student.

Video Production

I've always had an interest in producing films, but especially in editing them. I took a 4D class in college and had the opportunity to shoot and edit films in a group setting. Working with Adobe Premier Pro, I edited clips into different stories. My group and I had the honor to be chosen to have our video be selected as a promotional video for the "Hidden Genius" project in the Bay Area.
