I received a bachelor degree in Integrative biology from UC Berkeley in 2015. I deeply believe in the importance to tailor each lesson plan towards individual needs -- every student has different learning habits.
I scored over higher percentile on SAT II Math Level II, Physics, and Chemistry. I also scored top scores on many AP exams, including AP microeconomics, AP macroeconomics, AP chemistry, AP physics, AP calculus AB, and AP English language. During college, I have taken quite a few biology related courses, so ask away.
I am a very easy going, flexible in terms of learning styles, eagerness to accept challenges, and a strong emphasis on the importance of making neural connections among different concepts (instead of simple memorization). I am also happy to guide students about ways to minimize their cognitive loads before the exams so that they can achieve high percentile score. I can structure my lesson based on the types of teaching that the student him/herself believes will benefit from the most. I can either do didactic teaching or revolve around student's train of thoughts.
I started to work as a peer tutor since I was in high school -- as part of a hobby. Afterwards, I have found that the ability to explain concepts to your peers can not only your communication skills, but also the ability to present others in the most concise way possible. This is particularly important to me since we live in a society that is filled with overwhelming amount of information; I also want to share this aspect with my student, and possibly inspire them to do the same. I hope to use my passion to inspire others the importance to present a huge chuck of information in the easiest understandable way.
I have had strong foundation in terms of my background knowledge, and tutoring can be another way for me to constantly refresh my knowledge (while doing something that I truly enjoy).
In terms of my tutoring style, I'm very flexible since I believe whatever benefit the student is the most important aspect. I can either provide slides to go over the information if the student would like, or I can answer any question revolving student's questions during my session. The first one is important as well since it provides a good overview of the background knowledge and the second one can be beneficial to figure out the source of the error. Based on my educational journey, I'm comfortable to tutor any biology courses (ex. anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, microbiology, immunology), introductory psychology, sociology, college-level introductory physics, and general chemistry. I'm looking to tutor anyone who is high school, college, or adults. I received a bachelor degree in Integrative biology from UC Berkeley in 2015. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have accumulated numerous amount of nutritional-related knowledge from my undergraduate education. I have also taken many nutritional courses for fun, so I have a pretty good background.
