I want to be the tutor and friend to help you out! I love science. It's amazing, inspiring, but can also be difficult to understand. I want to help students understand how wonderful learning and understanding can be and hopefully have fun doing it! I've been tutoring privately for 6+ years, and with The Devon Review in Los Angeles for 1 year. I tutor from elementary school to college students with subjects ranging from biology, chemistry, organic chemistry to trigonometry, algebra and physics.
For me, the key to great tutoring is patience and knowing where the student is coming from in terms of background and learning style. With a combination of step by step information presentation and "check up" questions, we build up to having the student attempt questions on their own with guidance if needed. We often do practice problems together, then I have students solve a few on their own under my supervision. This gives students the confidence and tools to work out problems on their own, rather than me spoonfeeding them information that could be easily forgotten. I also have been told by multiple sources that I have a very unique and easy-to-digest way of presenting information, often with analogies or the breaking down of complex ideas. My favorite comment is when students say "That's so cool! Why don't they teach it like that in school!?"
A little about myself, I am a recent graduate from UCLA's Biochemistry Department with Latin Honors (GPA of 3.75), and I will be attending UCSF for pharmacy school in the fall. I graduated from Villa Park High School with a 4.94 and an SAT score of 2100.
I have done research in a biochemistry lab under Professor Yi Tang with one published paper. I am also a super nerd--I love learning new things, especially cool science. I love going on runs, staying healthy, eating great food at new places, and just generally having fun exploring. I also really love to paint with watercolor. I am a cheerful and optimistic person who loves to assist anyone in need and would love to meet new people.

Allison is fully competent in the subject. She communicates the material very well and is skilled at seeing things from a students perspective. Very positive attitude.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have taken three quarters of Organic Chemistry at UCLA, with two B+ and one A, and three quarters of organic chemistry lab. I have also used organic chemistry in my biochemistry classes and have tutored other students in the subject. I have tutored for the organic series for medical students as well as the series for chemistry and engineering majors.
