Since a very young age, I have recognized not only my own talent for writing, but also the power that comes with it. The ability to express one's knowledge and convey one's thought process is an asset that helps one thrive not only academically, but also professionally, personally, and socially. The more I have honed my own writing skills, the more I have uncovered about myself and been able to express to others. Few things bring me more pleasure than working with learners as they develop their own use of language and discover the range of opportunity and empowerment this skill set bestows. I approach teaching in the same way I approach my life-long pursuit of learning--with a sense of wonder and an eye for connection.
I possess an Masters of Fine Arts in Poetry, have taught college-level writing and composition, and am currently working towards my TESOL certification. I have a passion for reading great literature and learning foreign languages. A long-time student of the Spanish language, I have great empathy and respect for second language learners.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am more than halfway through the TESOL certificate program at UC Berkeley Extension. In addition, I am a lifelong learner of Spanish, and have studied the language in various contexts, both in the classroom and in country. I have also studied some Japanese, and even a little bit of Sanskrit. I am very passionate about languages and empathetic to the issues the come up in learning them.
My educational background has Writing all over it. I possess a BA in Comparative Literature from Boston University, as well as an MFA in Creative Writing from Saint Mary's College of CA. I have taught college level writing and composition, and have undergone a significant amount of pedagogical training and professional development in this field.
