About Sara

I love working with children and not only teaching them the skills they need to be successful in school, but also teaching them to love learning as much as I do.

I graduated Magna Cum Laude from San Francisco State University in 2014 with my BA in Child and Adolescent Development - emphasis on School-Age Children and Families and a Minor in Special Education. I am currently in my last semester of a 2-Year Education Specialist Master's Program at the University of San Francisco. I work full-time as a Special Education Teacher in a K-2 Special Day Class and am looking to tutor in my spare time.

Not only do I teach reading to my Kindergarten, First, and Second Grade students daily, but I have taken 2 Graduate-Level classes focusing on Reading Instruction.

I am a Special Education Teacher, so my career is centered on working to help students with Special Needs reach their full potential. I currently teach an Autism-Focused Special Day Class, but also have experience working with children with Specific Learning Disability, Speech/Language Impairment, and ADHD.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions you have after looking over my profile. I look forward to the opportunity to work with you!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I am a Credentialed K-12 Mild/Moderate Education Specialist. I am licensed to teach students with all types of disabilities, including ADD and ADHD. I have worked with students with ADD/ADHD in my classroom. I know what research-based strategies to use with children with ADD/ADHD.

Autism

I work full time as a Credentialed Special Education Teacher in a K-2 Autism-Focused Special Day Class. I am familiar with current Autism research because my thesis project is focused on designing a reading curriculum specifically designed to teach children with Autism. I have worked with children with Autism in Transitional Kindergarten, Kindergarten, First, Second, Third, and Fourth Grade. I am not only responsible for teaching my students the Common Core State Standards, but also formally teach social skills and self-regulation, and work with them on their IEP Goals.

Reading

I have my Education Specialist MA, which means I am qualified to teach as an Education Specialist in grades K - 12. I passed the RICA, which is an exam that measures a teacher's ability to teach reading. I teach reading daily in my TK - 2 classroom.

Special Needs

I hold a current K - 12 Education Specialist Credential. I am authorized to teach school-age students with all types of Mild to Moderate disabilities. My credential also includes an authorization to teach students with Autism and students who are English Language Learners. In May, 2016 I will have earned my Education Specialist Master's Degree from the University of San Francisco.
